Actually, the MDZ for Schenn idea isn't that unrealistic. The Rangers need more physicality on their defense and have said that they want a defenseman back in a MDZ trade.

Del Zotto has been a routine healthy scratch for the Rangers and coach Alain Vigneault hasn't been impressed when he's played.

Two young dmen at the nadir of their trade values... if not for the teams being in the same division, separated by only 3 points, I'd think it would be possible.

I feel the biggest reason for the lack of scoring is because the defense can't move the puck out of their own end quickly. Teams that move the puck through the neutral zone with speed generate better chances and more of them and are much harder to defend.

Gotcha, I haven't been able to stay on the up and up with my current work schedule (shift work) but that will change in the next month or so. Hopefully Flyers will be playing decent enough to make Center Ice worth it.

That's the clunker. Of course, the Flyers and Rangers have made deals while in similar positions before.

Eric Lindros for Hlavac, Johnsson, Brendl & a 3rd

Bob Froese for Kjell Samuelsson

According to the reports, the Rangers want a "top four" defenseman for MDZ...that's a stretch.

The coach is publicly ripping the guy, the only way they get more than another struggling player in return is if a desperate team overpays.

It wouldn't be a surprise, but they should have enough talent to be better.

I'd really like to see them make a push for a guy like Del Zotto or Rundblad. I think I'd happily trade Luke Schenn to the Rangers tomorrow for MDZ.

Any LWs with size that you like, who project to be 25-to-30 goal men?

A first rounder (Kenny Linesman) for Freddy Shero.

A depleted d-line in front of a backup goaltender should have had the Flyers forwards salivating. Instead, when they had their opportunities (not shorthanded) they were all largely ineffective all night. Very disappointing.

We still need to wait and see which team shows up each and every game. Will it be the up-on-their-skates Flyers, like in Detroit, or the disorganized, hesitant, brain numb bunch like yesterday?

Whichever, is it time yet to try other wingers on the "first" line?

Lecavalier has returned to Philly for further evaluation on his back, and it's "undecided" if he will rejoin team in Chicago.

My guess is the Flyers finish 4th in the Metro behind Pitts, the Caps and Rags and miss the playoffs. Barring a miracle at the draft lottery, they probably end up with the 10th or 11th pick. With their track record of picking forwards in the 1st round, hopefully they land a 1st line sniper with that pick.

I agree that adding 2 puck movers on D would greatly improve this team. Perhaps they can package the Schenns to land one of them and get one in free agency.

- BiggE

I'd package the Schenns in a heartbeat -- not because I'm down on them, but because that package should get us a good enough piece for what we need, and obviously, we can't keep everybody and still get exactly what we need to address our weaknesses.

I'd say so, but Vinny's injury muddies the waters a bit.

Yeah, that's it -- sometimes, when Braydon Coburn carries the puck up ice...you can see how it just breaks down another team's defense. You can see it.

I like for us to be sound defensively. But man. Even one more guy who could carry the puck with speed and then make the right pass...the puck retrieval...it just would make us look so different.

That's the trouble they face now. Not bad enough for a top pick & fringe playoff team at best. It's why I stump for getting a good , mobile defenseman

Ha! I won't -- I'm a "BAP" guy. Today, I'm dreaming a little dream of what it'd be like to move Scott Hartnell down in the lineup and getting a younger, faster player in that slot, but when it comes to draft day, I'm a stone-cold pragmatist for BAP.

This team is mediocre. It's pretty bad considering the contracts they've felt the need to dole out to ice this team

Yeah, his head slamming into the ice after the slewfoot from Thornton probably did more damage than the punches.
- Jsaquella

They did look like small punches, but you never know how they connected. I think Thornton gets 5 or 6 games.. Neal prob 2 or 3.

I have no idea what Rino will get but this is the type of crap that should get him scratched for a few after he does return from suspension. Doesn't sound like Chief is happy at all.
