RoR is far from David Backes level player. DB can take over a game in beast mode. RoR can't. The guy is overpaid thanks to the idiots in Calgary.
EDLER is an all star defenseman and a legitimate top pairing dman. Hard to find. just cuz some idiot Canucks fans want to rip Edler doesn't mean the guy isn't good. i have to wonder though what the caps give up for him?
Carlson plus is what the Canucks will want seeing as how they've been interested in Carlson in the past as well.. maybe Carlson plus Ward, another guy the Canucks coveted in the past. - kaptaan
I'm not saying ROR will be quite as good as Backes but it should also be factored in that ROR is 22 and Backes is 29. |

If I had my choice between the two, I'd easily take RoR over Edler.
Also, Carlson is outscoring Edler, younger, and counted on heavily for his defense by the Caps, something they wouldn't be able to do out of Edler.
So, why do they make trade? |

Sure.
Canucks will target a D man with their only valuable expendable asset.
Makes sense, since their offense has been on fire this season... |

That makes absolutely no sense from either side. Why would the Caps give up a young up and coming Dman for Edler. And if the Canucks are moving Edler they wouldn't want a dman back, they need a top 6 forward that can help them score. |

23 years old, putting up mid 30s in points, kills penalties, solid defensively. He's better than Edler all around at this point. So why trade him for Edler? That's lunacy.
And then the next Canucks poster suggests the Caps would have to add more.
They have their heads so far wedged up........ never mind. |

From the Leafs, I'd say O'Reilly would take maybe Franson, Finn/Percy, and a first.
Or maybe Gardiner, Finn/Percy, first.
Maybe more.
And I'd do it. |

The only thing Gardiner is worth is a mid to late round pick + a salary dump. |

So like Edler and a third?
How about Burrows, two firsts for Gardiner?
Actually, Burrows for Liles could work. |

Leafs don't have anyone we'd want. Go back to trading with the Flames. |

And all the Canucks have are seriously overpaid vets locked up for twenty years on bad contracts (Sedins, Burrows, Luongo, Edler, Garrison) and depth junk (Weise, Sestito, Tanev, etc, etc).
Nothing the Leafs would want.
The Canucks remind me of the post-lockout Leafs to a tee. The days of overpaid vets locked to big contracts that struggle to make the playoffs with no good youth.
Sundin, Allison, Tucker, Kaberle, McCabe, Kubina, Luongo.
Sedin x 2, Burrows, Edler, Bieksa, Garrison, Hamhuis, Belfour.
Basically the same thing.

Such a similar lineup I even confuse the two.
I added the goalies in after I thought about for a second. And realized even the goalies were pretty similar.

Come on guys, get real. RoR is a top young forward. He doesn't go for something like this.

I find this funny because I always thought the 2007-2012 Flames were the most comparable to the post-2005 Leafs. I guess that Leafs era is sort of a gold standard on how not to build a big-money team. |

Hahaha, well. Eventually they actually were comprised of the same players. Not just similar. The same ones.
It's true though. Compare the 05/06 Leafs to the current Canucks. Look at the players they have signed, the caliber, the ages of those players, contract situation, farm system. They're so similar it's crazy.
Even the fricken GMs are about as inept as each other. |

Matt Stajan has actually become a pretty well-liked player here. Doesn't come close to making up for the trade of course but I find it a bit funny. |

I'm going to be very curious about whether Schneider for Horvat ends up a better trade than Luongo for Scrivens and two 2nds (which allegedly was the Leafs' final offer for Luongo at the deadline last year). |

Defenceman are a biggest value on market then a forward everyone know that
Diaz is playing very good and Beaulieu can be a real PP monster in 2-3 years, playing very good for hamilton so far..
OReilly is good but he will never put something like 70 points in a 82 g seasons right ? hes more like an excellent 2 way forward
so you give 2 dman that can play on PP for the future + a 2nd pick ? Subban get draft in 2nd round so you can get very good player
