Gauthier had a slow start to the season. He was drafted playing only one year in the Q. His defensive game is very strong for his experience. Some feel because of his hockey IQ he may still not be up to speed with his offensive potential yet. Before deciding on hockey, word on the street division 1 schools were interested in his services to play QB. Smart kid.

Saddledome was built in the 80's, no?

Probably still has a decade left in her.

Hope not. When you go to the newer buildings in the nhl you see just how bad the layout and design of the dome is.

Shinkaruk.... an undersized guy that can't light up the WHL? Not even likely to play in the NHL ever.

He's coming off 86 and 91 point seasons averaging 65 GP. What exactly is considered lighting it up?

Gauthier was putting up more points at the beginning of the year than he is now. He's put up like 5 points in the last 10 games.

Goddam smart phones. Sorry for double post was attempting to reply to this one. Not quite sure what I did. No worries about Gauthier, the Leafs will need to develop certain aspects of his game. He's still a few years away.

What are you trying to show me? That he's 7th on his team in scoring right now?

To put it in perspective check out Dave Bolland's junior season stats and then think about his nhl career. There's tons of NHL players in the bottom 6 who were junior stars. More to hockey than putting up points.

Most top NHL players put up big points in junior, even if they were defensive specialists. (forwards I mean). Big points doesn't mean you will be good in the NHL. Few points means you likely won't make it.

For sure there is, but the kid having a good junior career isn't grounds to label him as a career AHLer. That's ridiculous.

If he was a leaf prospect, we'd be pumped about him.

Many would consider 39 points in 32 games pretty good for a defensive forward... especially with 0 PIMS.

And if 0 Pims and plus minus are how you judge players, I guess that really explains a lot.

Perhaps you'd prefer that he has 16 points in 18 games while hurting his team with 29 Pims, like golden boy Hunter Shinkaruk???

- lumlums

Gauthier has nowhere near 39 points lums...

There are other intangibles that hurt his chances. With his size he most likely will only play in the NHL if he cracks top 6 and his window will be small. Also there's a reason why he kept dropping in the draft. You don't really find your offensive gems in the late first round. At the very least your fingers are crossed.
