My nephew wants only Skylander stuff for xmas. Does anyone know what it even is? Do I buy figures? Or a game? Which ones are the best?

I was shocked at the cost of legos while I was looking a gift to donate for toys for tots.

Yeah, Legos are so much more than they used to be, it's kinda crazy you can spend well over $100 for a box of em.

If you knew, everytime you stepped on the ice, you were going to have to risk getting your face beat in you would think twice about kneeing someone in the face.

It's weird to think about, but the players with the most respect for the game are the enforcers.

Most of them yes, they know their roles.

Getting your kids to actually use their imagination is priceless, though.

Of all the things to spend money on, I can definitely see an argument for Legos - creativity, building, spatial recognition, etc.

Or wood blocks.

So... back when guys could arbitrarily jump one another... hockey players conducted themselves in the utmost gentlemanly manner... mhmmm?

you didn't get a postgame update on the teevee there in dicky seamus PA?
- -davies-

Replied to this already...it disappeared into the ether...

But no, I didn't watch the post game after enduring that terrible game. I figured I'd get an update later in the day or tomorrow. I just hope for the best.

Do you watch Archer?

How so?

Instigator rule was 1992. Guys like Kenny Linseman (and the dude in my avatar) were stick-fighting, kicking, stomping, eye-gouging, hair-pulling, biting, taking out knees, slashing ankles, and god knows what else before then. Yeah, guys could get jumped, but a lot of that stuff was pretty routine and went unpunished by other players (and the refs, too).

There have always been rats, and will always be rats. Pretending that the instigator would quell the general lack of respect is pretty silly, when that respect has never existed to begin with. It's all a myth and waxing poetic about hockey days gone by that most of us have never witnessed.

Neal is a piece of poop, Orpik isn't much better. Live by the sword die by the sword. The a Pens are such a dirty team, throw the ugly Russian in there, what they get away with is a joke. I don't like seeing someone get hurt, but the league brings it upon themselves, with the protection they give the Pens. I say screw them you get what you deserve.
- LJF

I don't consider Orpik a dirty player. Neal can be sneaky dirty, as can Malkin.

easy on Kenny Linseman now.

I've watched hockey since the 70's, I don't recall so many cheap shots, especially to the head as in the last 10 years or so, & its getting worse

Here is what Neal had to say about the incident:

"What do you want me to say? Like 'I'm trying to hit him [Marchand.]' I'm going by him I don't get out of the way like I said. I need to be more careful. I guess get my knee out of the way but I'm not trying to hit him in the head or injury him [Machand] or anything like that."

ridiculous!

he needs to man up for once, no regard for the game let alone the opponent

Linseman once kicked a player in the head with his skate... that makes Neal's knee look pretty tame.

So true. It's very easy to fall into the trap of passive parenting with todays technology. During serious hang over mornings I let my son play his Ipad until noon so I can pass out on the couch if need be. He does puzzles and stuff on it, but I'm not too sure it "helps" him develop cognitively. I do have to admit, he knows how to use the ipad better than I do and he's 22 months old. I can't get past the fact that there isn't a back button.. so I normally give up when I reach a "dead end".

Different type of players all together than today though.

You have a point though. It's something that I guess we'll never really be able to understand.

Sports don't build character within people, it brings it out.
