I was wondering if goalies can ask the coach to play in certain games, thinking Emery might want to play against Chicago (or then again, given how good they are, maybe not)?
- Marc D

i imagine that would vary depending on the relationship the goalie had with the coach, and who is the coach... i wouldn't ask torts but i might ask john stevens

OK, what is the deal with the "back spasms". Do you think that is the standard euphemism for something more serious?

It always makes me nervous when we start getting these mysterious injuries.

I think it's just another overpaid free agent breaking down.

Why does it have to be a euphamism for anything? I dont see why it cant just be back spasms. Some people are quicker to believe that this is some serious injury and we're being lied to by the team, than that he genuinely just had back spasms. Its like with Luukko's departure. A lot of people were more willing to believe that it was a forced resignation spurred by some power conspiracy than that he genuinely just wanted to pursue other interests. Why do people think that the team is constantly lying to them about everything they can get away with lying about?

I have been meaning to ask this..

If Valeri Nichushkin had dropped the one spot, or they didn't win those pointless games at the end of the season, so the Flyers could have drafted him would people have been mad they did vs a dman?

He's been most compaired to Malkin and Lindros. I'd get over it real quick.

If I'm mad about anything it was the terrible draft board the Flyers had.

Because the team has led us to believe injuries aren't serious then they turn out to be career threatening. Is it their own doing? Not sure but going back to pronger, he had like a cold to being done for good.

Edit; oh yea btw if you wanna believe Lukko decided on a whim in the middle of a tailspin which goes back to last season really, that he's gonna pursue other interests, then be my guest. But stepping down during the course of a season seems highly ill timed to a lot of people.

- JoeRussomanno

Yes-this! Especially for a hockey guy like him, though according to published reports he only spent 20% of his time with Flyers related issues. Whats he going to do, clean out his garage or just go to all his sons games in the minors?

The sad fact is anytime you go after an UFA, you will most likely overpay and hand out a contract 1 or 2 years too long.

Streit's a perfect example: if the deal had been 3 years with a cap hit of 4-4.25 I would have been ok with it. In Vinnie's case I was fine with the $, but like you I thought it was 1 year too long.

January 1st is around the corner, that's when Mason/Homer can officially start negotiations and sign an extension.

I really hope the Flyers get it done at a moderately cap friendly hit, whether it's done in the near future or in the postseason. He is a RFA after the current contract (1-year/ 1.5M) so Homer does have some leverage there.

A cap hit at around 4M-4.5M medium to long term would be great if he keeps up those numbers for the whole year.

The other thing the Flyers have to deal with thanks to the weather, is a third straight game without Vinny Lecavalier in the lineup.

Lecavalier won’t play tomorrow because he wasn’t able to get on the ice and test his back prior to the game.

Downie is another one the Flyers should resign if that ''third line'' keeps playing like it is. Awesome chemistry with Couts and Read. Really impressive.

A line that is shutting down opponents and being that hot offensively is a pretty rare combo to find in today's NHL.

Although he is a UFA after this season, I wouldn't be surprised if a 3-year/10M or 4yrs/11M would get it done.
