Agreed. And we saw with Bill's post a week or so ago how later round defensive picks can turn into Weber's, Subban's, etc. So hoard the picks and hope you strike gold.

Flyers GMs have thrown those picks away because they could always buy players with no cap. doesn't work that way anymore. Picks and assets are gold.

I rescind everything I said. Orpik got popped good on the chin.

That being said, Neal's knee to the head was one of the dirtiest things I've seen in a while. He's nothing but scum.

Valid points.

If you look at the Predators, the kid they have subbing for Rinne has the same numbers as him, they don't score goals either, but with the system they employ, the goalie stands on his head less, (usually), our defensive game isn't all that great & he's required to steal more games then someone on a differently structured team.

I think we know why Orpik doesn't fight. He's softer than Glass Joe from the old Nintendo boxing game.

Still, I might be the only one, but I like that Thornton did what he did. What Neal did was one of the dirtiest, dangerous, and disgusting things I've seen in a hockey game. I just wish it was Neal who was laying unconscious on the ice.

Flyers have a habit of drafting out from their spot. If they pick 5th, they grab a guy who's ranked 20th. If they're picking 35th, they're reaching for the guy who's ranked 7,345,123rd.

The Streit move is giving me season long indigestion, (and I'm not surprised Vinny is out), he's missed a lot of time the last few years.

And Neal, if anything at all, will get, what?
2-3 games?

its a joke, someone needs to go after him next game, what he did was completely disrespectful to the game itself.

Luke Schenn will never ever be close to being any one of those 3 you mentioned. Doughty already has 198 points in his career and he's younger than Luke Schenn. Subban is the same age as Schenn, is a consistant 40 point defenseman and a norris trophy winner. None of these guys have been as bad as Schenn. Also, none of those guys are defensive defensemen with average/below average footspeed. I would trade Luke Schenn for any one of those guys.

You are comparing apples to oranges and if you expect Luke Schenn to turn into any of those 3 players in the future, I think you will be disappointed. He is capable of being a solid top 4 defensive defenseman, nothing special but every team needs two.

Also, let's not forget it's his 6th season, he's not a rookie and has played 70+ games 4 times already. He is a veteran of 382 games.

He's still young and will probably get better defensively but he's never going to be a Doughty or PK Subban or Phaneuf.

If Morin looks like Luke Schenn in his 6th year and his offense doesn't develop at the NHL level then yea, he'll be a bust for the position in which he was taken.

- Flyers_01

I never said Luke would be as good as those guys... only that young d will struggle at times, sometimes for long stretches, but that doesn't preclude them from turning things around eventually.

If you want an apples to apples comparison... take a guy like Johnny Boychuk. Highly regarded coming out of the WHL, drafted pretty high by the Avs... it took him a good 7-8 years, a lot of time in the AHL, and one trade before he finally cemented a role as a valuable top-4 dman.

It's funny that Neal got a 2 minute penalty for Kneeing. How is kneeing a guy in the face while he's laying on the ice not a major?

BTW, Orpik has already been released from the hospital and is traveling with the team back to Pittsburgh. He will play in the next game, as of right now.

Neal really needs to get his blood pooled somewhere. He's a child that needs a spanking

probably not, but a game between these 2 teams may have something come of it, cant imagine the B's not sending a tape to the league.

Instigator rule allows him to be the type of player he is. Players have lost respect for one another, but most importantly they've lost respect for the game. It's a problem society is dealing with in almost every aspect of our culture.

I can still see the cheap shots against us in the playoff series a few years ago, he has no regard.

Nah, the league will step in and warn them that they'll get severe punishment if anything further happens in the next game.

They're like those parents who stop one brother from beating up the other brother who's constantly teasing and torturing the other one. Then finally you get around your parents and punch him in the face and they rush him to the hospital and ground you.

I wanted to reboot. The Flyers having made the choice to not sacrifice current seasons and not mortgage the future made what I thought where sensible moves. Streit and Lecav could help the team stay relevant within those guidelines.

If you knew, everytime you stepped on the ice, you were going to have to risk getting your face beat in you would think twice about kneeing someone in the face.

It's weird to think about, but the players with the most respect for the game are the enforcers.

Off topic:

My nephew wants only Skylander stuff for xmas. Does anyone know what it even is? Do I buy figures? Or a game? Which ones are the best?

So... back when guys could arbitrarily jump one another... hockey players conducted themselves in the utmost gentlemanly manner... mhmmm?

Can't be a random number, or a number he deems harsh. Can't punish a union member severely unless they're ok with it.

The NHLPA shares a great deal of blame in the current state of affairs as well.

I think that's a fair point.

Exactly. Thornton should have gone after Neal and kicked the poop out of him. Orpik's hit might have borderline, but it was a bang/bang play whereas Neal's hit was deliberate.

I think he got crunched against the board in the d-zone, held his head after the hit, and didn't come back after that. But that's speculative as the play moved up ice and I caught the hit out of the corner of my eye. Think it was in the back half of the 2nd. Hopefully it's nothing too serious like a concussion or a break.
