Nothing this league has such strong interest in seeing the Pens do well. That is the money making machine. They have Crosby and the ugly Russian on the ice and super Mario behind the scenes.

Luke Schenn will never ever be close to being any one of those 3 you mentioned. Doughty already has 198 points in his career and he's younger than Luke Schenn. Subban is the same age as Schenn, is a consistant 40 point defenseman and a norris trophy winner. None of these guys have been as bad as Schenn. Also, none of those guys are defensive defensemen with average/below average footspeed. I would trade Luke Schenn for any one of those guys.

You are comparing apples to oranges and if you expect Luke Schenn to turn into any of those 3 players in the future, I think you will be disappointed. He is capable of being a solid top 4 defensive defenseman, nothing special but every team needs two.

Also, let's not forget it's his 6th season, he's not a rookie and has played 70+ games 4 times already. He is a veteran of 382 games.

He's still young and will probably get better defensively but he's never going to be a Doughty or PK Subban or Phaneuf.

If Morin looks like Luke Schenn in his 6th year and his offense doesn't develop at the NHL level then yea, he'll be a bust for the position in which he was taken.

- Flyers_01

That's my concern, too. I feel Schenn's ceiling as a player is a physical, second pair defenseman that could score a few goals a year and occasionally step up and have a stretch here and there where he teases as a potential top pair guy.

Vide of the incident. Neal made a dirty hit on Marchand earlier as well leading up to the play.

Edit: If I am a casual NHL fan, or someone tuning in for the first time, I think this is a joke league.

Dirty but it wasn't that bad. I'd rather that then crosby upper cutting my nutsack. I refuse to feel bad for any pens player. I hate them so much!

It helps to just ignore that nonsense...James Neal is a dirty mother(frank)er. People can't see that, (frank) 'em

He is, though. Definitely a skilled player, but he's also very dirty. Usually petty sneaky about it, to boot.

Which part wasn't that bad?
The slew foot or the 2 punches to the head which knocked Orpik out?

No offense or anything, but I don't think hard practices are really going to make guys like Grossmann, Luke Schenn, and Streit better skaters.

Or some of the members on the forward corps.

- flyer_nutter

agreed

I think we saw today what happens when Mason could no longer stand on his head, or what top line skill can do, ours is still sleeping

Malkin as well, but he's not as sneaky he just does it out in the open & gets away with it

Oh Jesus, yeah. He's one of the dirtiest (frank)ers around. I remember a few years ago, in the midst of the big slew footing crackdown, he did it to Paul Mara of the Rangers twice on one shift.

really ironic how the owner of that team almost quit at one time because of the dirty cheap shots, the same crap his players employ.

How many other top lines have players that have their own website that tracks how many times they fall down to the ice? 82 times in 25 games. Just imagine that count in the final year of His contract when he's 37.

The league brings this upon themselves. They protect and promote certain teams. Everyone knows this, the players included. The Pens are just a dirty piece of poop team that has the protection of the league. This is what will and should happen, sorry but I feel no sympathy for them or their players.

He went on that whole diatribe, and meanwhile he had recently extended Matt Cooke's deal

he should start focusing on something productive maybe on his website, I know its charity, but inconsistency & lack of drive is maddening from game to game

It is annoying that Neal and Malkin get away with so much because they are skilled players. Same thing for Ovechkin.

The problem is they waited til the draft last year to take any highly regarded D propects. Now with Kimmo done we're going to have this 2-3 year gap where (unless a big move is made) you have no one on the roster capable of being a true number 1, let alone a 1B. And you HOPE in 3 years Morin and Hagg are those guys.

Phaneuf getting every penny he asks for is becoming a distinct possibility.

- hereticpride

If the cap goes up 6 mil+, and Timonen coming off the books as well as Mez....

I'm going after Phaneuf.

Uh...how the hell did he just get knocked out....it looked like Marchand hardly touched him

That being said....I can't say I feel sorry for the Penguins. The protection they get from the league is just so ridiculous.

Thornton probably gets a good 7-10 games for that tough.

Sweet comeback by the Bruins.

Nice collapse by Fleury and the Pens.

Hope Orpik is ok.

Neal reinforces why he's a piece of poop.

Giroux's salary is $4.25mm more than this year and Read's is $2.72mm more. That's about $900k or so above Timonen's hit, plus a likely $6mm or so increase in the overall salary cap.

The big questions are raises for Mason and a bigger cap hit for Brayden Schenn, who will not have part of his hit deleted with a bonus cushion

(frank) the Pens, I'll never feel sorry for them. I like Orpik, however, and wish him the best.

(frank) that piece of poop Neal though.
