for now, boyd gordon is a great 3c. abit overpaid, but he's been great for us. strong defensively, a demon in the dot and physical. chipped in a few points too.

very happy with him

Yup. Truthfully our bottom 6 is fine and Im not sure why so many Oilers fans are so eager to change it. Our TEAM defence is easily the biggest concern and not just the blueliners but forwards missing backchecking and own zone assignments. Its scary how many rebounds have gone to wide open guys in high percentage areas while two forwards cover a guy behind the goal line or on the boards. Seems to be improving but its hard to say what team we get to watch from game to game.

i didnt really mean to hate too much. the oilers have a ton of holes and need alot of things.
was just responding to said post as we have absolutely zero need for matt stajan

I know where your coming from on this ... The oilers holes will be hard to fill unless you make a big trade ... Have to give up something up front ... Which is where a guy like stajan fills in

good post bru. no idea which team shows up tonight. a loss erases all those good feelings and stops any mo

the forwards have gotten off too light in comparison to our defence. the defnce is atrocious as well and certainly needs another quality body or two, but our top 6 has been terrible defensively as well.

love to add some size and physicality on the wing along with ebs and nuge, as well as a more complete two way guy at 2c

We have a better version of him in Gordon. Neither should be above 3C level. What the Oilers need, far and away above everything else, is a top pairing dman. A true #1. After that would be a top 6 forward with some real toughness. Stajan addresses neither issue. Not about underrating him. He just is what he is.

What you're team is really missing is the understanding that hockey, especially at the NHL level, is a 3 zone game. That and actual effort and desire to have the puck and win.

8th in the NHL in GF. 30th in GA. That's why our D gets poop.

And even if you take away the 10-11 poopty goals our goalies gave up in the first month we are still bottom 3 in the league for GA. D is by FAR our biggest issue. If we had better D our forwards would look better as well.

i think our first rounder + will be shopped for top pairing dman.
whether this is possible or not remains to be seen.

and i suppose there's an outside shot of yaks getting dealt. but it would for size, or defensive help id assume. hemmer would take that spot and get resigned. or maybe a big winger that crashes the net instead

i jsutd dont see at all how matt stajan helps or replaces at any spot we need

I guess my thinking was that if you had a stajan then you could afford to package one of the kids ... But I guess if gags has NTC and nuge ain't going anywhere it's a no go

every one of those forwards in a minus player. and that's certainly not all on the defence and goaltending. they lose coverage, make mistakes and lose battles with regularity.

couldnt the same be said that if our forwards were stronger defensively, the rest of the team and defence would also look better?
all of the best teams have way stronger two way forwards in their top 6. not to mention size.

while a top pairing d and some quality depth would help immensely and is our biggest concern, it's just looking for easy anwers and placing blame on one facet. we're weak in many areas and have many holes

defence
goaltending
size
defensive acumen from our top 6
better faceoff from the top 2 centers
etc etc

many things need to be addressed if we not only want to escape the cellar, but ever get to be a contender

nuge and hall arent going anywhere

i suppose maybe one of ebs or yaks as theyre both right wingers and we have a capable top 6er behind them in hemsky to replace one of em

but i doubt ebs unless we get an offer we cant refuse. so in terms of yaks, as i said we'd be looking for defence and/or size

I can't see you guys getting much for Yaks right now. At least not the offer that will fix all, or at least most, of what ails you. Ebbs may be your best chip right now but Halls best friend....hmmm. Not sure about that either.

his value probably isnt as high as as it was at the beginning of the year. but i cant see it being that low either.

gm's arent nearly as fickle as fans at look at the big picture.

a dynamic first overall from a year and a half ago who led rookies in goals and points.

but a sophmore slump 30 games into his 2nd year and still hasnt even played 82 games total has lost his value???
no

id be willing to bet a ton we can snag a very valuable piece or two for him if we went the trade route.

Other than a 20 game stretch he has been a 3rd liner. Not worth trading, not worth acquiring. Now stop poisoning the wells...everyone knows flame ignites putrid oil.

Hudler or Monahan?
- TheTaoOfSemenko

Hudler is a winger and Monahan still has a lot to learn. Stajan has been consistent and responsible all year so far.

I dont care what line he's been on. Is this a mark for him? Or against?

He led rookies in goals and points.
Scored 17 goals in 40 + games as a 19 year old
He was a first overall a year and half ago
He's barely 20 years olf
Hasnt even played a full season

But despite all of these things, his struggles 30 games into his sophmore season has destroyed his value??

The nonsense on hb makes me chuckle sometimes
