He is a big boy. They (bigger players) usually dont skate very well, i imagine if Mashinter had speed to his game he wouldnt be an AHL guy. Not sure though, i dont know much about the guy
- BlazinMike

He's a plug. No one hates the guy he's just a simple plug that's all. when we have 3-4 guys hurt he comes up and players 4th line. That's all.

Your argument is fair but I will ask, not that it should matter but I think it contributes. Do you think the hawks aren't their typical shut down selves because of the Olympics coming? A good chunk of their team is going to rep their respective countries. This is also why I think determination will be different after the Olympics are done.
- PhilMeister89

I am not sure what effect, if any, the Olympics is having right now. But this team hasn't always been "shut down." The two years between Cups they gave up more goals all year (one of them was not too close to good) and went home early.
So, to me, the two years they played high-end regular season defense = Cup win; the two years they didn't = no Cup.

Wiz, nice excerpt of the kid's work. After Bollig's clear loss to McGrattan, i commented that Bollig was likely our HEAVY win or lose. Looks like the org wanted to augment our BIG, UGLY brigade and Mashinter is not afraid to let the
fists FLY.

and if you think Kyle Beach is some brainy smart underachiever who is gonna score goals and win fights…you will find out quickly, that he is good at starting them, just can't finish them…

...and when we have guys hurt we bypass beach for a call up and in the past, elected to give future Florida star Hayes a shot….

so then

Guys... I wasn't trolling... I was just letting you know what to expect. He is an AHL acquisition and like a 15th forward. Yea he has size but he isn't noticeable on the ice as in throwing his body around. He will get in a fight and your like "Oh Mash was on the ice." I was just saying don't let the size trick you to thinking he's that big hard hitting forward type that's all.

And since he's an AHL plug for the Ranger's stand point it's maybe a change of scenery wakes the Beach up although I doubt it but hey, didn't give up much to try and find out.

Someone on ESPN asked if the Blackhawks can afford to re-sign both Kane and Toews an this is the answer that Craig Custance gave.

Great question, Colin. I recently went to Chicago to chat with both of them and they talk about their next contract at length in the next ESPN The Magazine. Make sure to grab a copy when it hits newsstands. But it's a fascinating negotiation.

One of things we talked about was whether they needed to have the exact same deal and they pointed out that we've seen teammates such as Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin and Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf all take different amounts of money to get long-term deals done. In the case of Kane and Toews, they’re both represented by Pat Brisson, which might make things easier in that regard. But those are the deals I’d look at when figuring out their potential value. You have to throw out Sid's deal because it was done before the new CBA. But Perry, Getzlaf and Malkin are certainly fair comparables, so we’re talking something in the annual range of $8.5 to $9.5 million. Malkin had KHL leverage, which Kane and Toews don’t, so I’m not sure Stan Bowman has to go as high as the Malkin deal. Also, I don’t know how you do anything less than eight years for these two considering their age (25). So let’s split the difference and say they get $9 million per season, for the sake of answering your final question. That’s an extra $2.7 million per season cap hit for each player, for a total of an additional $5.4 million compared to their current deals. A healthy raise but not debilitating to Chicago’s future cap.

It doesn’t screw up the long-term plan at all because most salary-cap projections have it continuing to grow in the next couple of years, especially considering the billion dollar Canadian television deal. I don’t think it’s a reach at all to think that the salary cap will be north of $70 million when the new deals kick in for Chicago. Even if the cap just gets to $70 million for the 2015-16 season (the first year of a new Kane/Toews contract), which I think is conservative, that’s a $5.7 million increase from the cap this season, covering the $5.4 million raise we’re giving those two annually. If you look at the cost certainty Bowman has already built into the equation with his other long-term deals, the Blackhawks should be able to keep the band together.

He looked solid and balanced during that tilt, and his punches were straight down the pipe (rather than wild round-house swings). My preference would be 12 forwards that can play and to roll four lines. However, if one of the forwards is only going to play a few minutes, might as well have it be someone that can throw.

I know how everybody feels about Beach, but just wondering if anyone thinks a change of scenery will put it together for him? What if he finally gets it after being traded?
- BlazinMike

Most likely. Doesn't really matter though. He had used up any good will with the Hawk's organization. At least he is in the East.

As Elbows said, it has more to do with Beach than your post. Thanks for the info on Mash. Beach only showed a 5 cent head (hat tip to Philco) here, maybe the change of scenery will help, but I wouldn't be the ranch on that.

He won't see the NHL with the Hawks Mo. He's a stiff who can't skate. Or hit really. If he playing for the Hawks, something will have gone terribly wrong.

I was writing the Hawks blog on HB back then...

Got word from someone in the know that Tallon loved Beach and if they were lucky and he slipped to 11 they wouldn't pass him. I wrote it and later that was exactly the scenario.

Sometimes big boys can dominate but when big boys play against men...Not so much.
