Absolutely a top pairing defensive, defenseman.

Shanahan for Stevens, that trade wasn't.

This game just won't have the same feel to it without Ott and Lavi involved...

Goligoski has been a healthy scratch at times. Has to be the first time ever a team traded a power forward for a Dman, and the Dman ends up in the press box.

Looking at their 1987 roster, the Caps top 4 D at the time was Larry Murphy (who had an 81 pt year that year), Scott Stevens (who had some offensive game back then), Kevin Hatcher (who had a cannon of a shot), and Rod Langway (one of the last SAH defenseman to win the Norris).
- johndewar

yup, though the year Langway won the Norris I thought it should have gone to Mark Howe. Howe was just as good as Langway defensively while putting up 20 goals, 80 points and playing 30 minutes a game. In fact Howe should have won the Norris twice, he was beat out one year by Paul Coffey who was basically a 4th forward and was never even on the ice when the Oilers were protecting a lead late in a game.

I disagree. I think Pittsburgh is a microcosm for hate. I dont know why the entire world doesn't dispise this team.

The team is great with talent. That alone is enough to be angry with jealously. But then the team plays a very dirty game, yet thier ownership is trying to lead the NHL into a "cleaner" game. The ownership, the Fans, and the Players are arogant beyond belief. The players are notorious for dives and whining. It like come on, you team is good enough as it is, do you still have to cheat to win?

On top of that you have the in state rival, the in division rival, the playoff rival.... I just dont know how they dont move up to the top hated team.

Kimmo was still very good last year, no argument there.

By the PO's, Streit was getting less ice-time than every other Isles' defender at ES, including world-beaters like Brian Strait and Thomas Hickey. They were almost exclusively using him in offensive situations, so while it may seem like his points didn't decline terribly, his overall usefulness sure did.

Visnovsky came in and made him expendable to the Isles... and he can't even supplant a 38-39 year old Kimmo on the Flyers' top PP unit. What does that say about his level of play?

- Tomahawk

It says more about the coach's unwillingness to rock the boat by demoting Kimmo.

Streit has 10 points to Kimmo's 6 despite getting less PP time and primarily playing with the second unit.

I still hate the Rags and Devils more. If the Penguins lost Crosby and Malkin tomorrow, the rivalry would die down significantly, but I'll hate the Rangers and Devils no matter who's on the team.
- jmatchett383

Trust me, if the Rangers hadnt been a mess for years after they won the cup in 95 ( I know they were good in the years after but the Lindros teams smacked them around, which was phenominal) then the blood would be boiling. The only real significant event these two have faced against each other was the weekend games that decided the playoff spot in 10.

I could be mistaken but I think Bill said outside of Dillion, Dallas has smaller defense that isnt great defensively.

And IMO Grossmann is a much better player then when he was in Dallas, and I think he is extremely under-rated for what he does, thus being a good value on the cap.

- youarewrong

One thing to think about here, Grossmann frequently and effectively uses his body to protect the puck and pound forecheckers to free up pucks in the defensive zone...I don't know that a move taking that kind of force out of the picture would help them spend less time in the D zone as much as you might think....I'm thinking it would make it easier for the opposing forecheck to maintain posession, as they wouldn't have to deal with being smashed up against the boards nearly as often.

I am sure they will...With the Jacoby contract the Yankees basically priced Cano to 240 or more...another blunder by the Yankees...kind of like the Flyers over pay on long contracts on older guys and regret it 3-4 years down the line...
The best part is, the Yankees need Cano...they don't have another big bat in the lineup without him...

That's fine with me. I'd be happy baseball-wise if the Yankess and Red Sox never won another game.

and what with the jvr-schenn swap the rivalry has never been more emotional and passionatel!!!!!!!
- hammarby31

Rivalries come and go (in the past Boston, Ottawa, Buffalo, Toronto) because of playoff matchups but some rivalries never change. For me, that is the Rangers. its probably the NYC thing. I may hate the Pens more now but in my lifetime as a Flyers fan its always Rangers hatred. Same hatred for the Devils.

If we are talking about fan bases, there is no fan base more obnoxious then Montreal. They have the 3 keys to being the worst fan base.
1. Pretentious... They think they are the owners of the sport, and anyone that doesn't want to play for them, or doesn't speak French are evil.

2. The cheer... The have the most obnoxious cheers. From the "I think it a penality so let me "cheer" until I realize the Ref didnt call it, then star to boo". To the "ole" and "Na na na na."

3. The Horn... Any fan base that uses an air horn is obnoxious. How annoying is it to hear "Honk-Honk-Honk" every 30 seconds. Real fan bases dont need prompting by obnoxious drunk fans.

- youarewrong

I want to hunt down the person In DC who has that damn air horn.

Agree 100%
Its for the same reason I hate the Giants more than the Cowgirls and the Mets more than the Braves. There's just something about NY teams that brings out my inner dark side!

I had back spasms for years until I finally got an MRI and it revealed a herniated disc. It's the worst. You tweak it once and you're out of commission for at least a week.
- PhillySportsGuy

I had bad spasms for years and they really got bad in 2007. had a MRI and they realized it was because i had a mass pressing on a nerve. took the mass out and know on wood, my back has been great
