Comparing Iginla and Subban is like comparing Carlton Banks and Stringer Bell.

It would be naive if not willfully ignorant to say there hasn't been an undercurrent of racism in the portrayal of PK Subban.

Or to put it another way, if Luke Schenn, who was drafted in the same year, had PK's skill set and personality, he'd be the face of the league right now.

I can't find anything to amend in this post.

Iginla's half white.

And he's as boring (synonym to "classy) as every other hockey player.

This makes for an interesting discussion. Subban would get 100 points if they left him go like Doughty does. No need for MacKinnon, just let him play. Subban is better than Doughty too.
- Champ

Please don't talk about what you don't know about.

That first sentence just shows you don't watch a lick of Kings hockey. They don't "let Doughty go."

This year especially, more than ever.

As for who is better, that is an opinion, so you are entitled to that.

Didn't someone slip up recently and refer to one of Subban's game as "One of the niggest games of his career?"

Pretty sure it was Ferraro

No for a defenseman that come along once in a great while that won the Norris last year and is only going to get better ...and is part of the best defensive pairing in the NHL this year ...
- toneez

That's a bit of a stretch, not sure if you're saying PK is a once in a generation defender

Yup. Pk's really starting to play the white way, as Darren Pang would say.

Some of you Mtl fans have a seriously over inflated value of your own players. There's no way anyone trades Stamkos, Malkin, Ovechkin or Crosby for Subban. There's also no way in hell Subban is worth Johnson, Mackinnon and a 1st rounder.

Would I like to have Subban on my team? Yes, he's a good player. Would I trade MacKinnon for him? Hell no. And that's not a slight of Subban at all, that speaks more to how special MacKinnon looks just based on what I've already seen from him.

And before anyone who hasn't been actually watching Mack this year quotes his stats to me, I watch him actually play and if you did too you'd know that Roy has given him inconsistent ice time and played him with some guys he's much better than. Just recently with Stastny out he got to play with the 2nd line and he shined, it's hard to put up numbers when you play with a couple of grinders on your wing. That's about the only complaint I have about Roy thus far, I don't like how he handles MacKinnon sometimes. It's getting better though.

Fair point. I watch quite a few LA games on Gamecenter (my preferred post-Habs games), and if anything, Doughty's numbers have decreased in recent years because LA leans on him so much to shut down the opponent's top players.

Not denying there is racism involved, but PK Subban is definitely not good enough to be the face of the league no matter if you're white, black, brown, yellow, green, blue or purple.

He's a great player, don't get me wrong.

You know what, I'd also like to see Subban out there blocking shots in the last 2 minutes and maybe breaking a foot to show his commitment to the team...that'll really shut up the haters!

Sure we might miss our best defenseman for 4-6 weeks...but it's worth it to show he's no longer a defensive liability.

- TouenneTiiTree

Every other team puts out their best defensemen in the last 2 minutes... Please ask yourself - "Why is PK different?"

After reading the first bolded part, the second bolded part is kinda funny. But I don't blame you one bit. He's a special player on your favorite team, and that means something to you. Nothing wrong with that.

Exactly. Truthfully, he is not in a system that let's him shine. He has all the gifts offensively, the Kings are just a defense first team, so he is held back from doing what he does best.

But he has become a really good defender as well, something he wasn't that good at a few years back.

I'd argue that in an offensive minded system, he'd be top 3 or top 5 in points for D year in and year out. I might be wrong, but that's how good I think he is.

Who said PK isn't there in the last 2 minutes?

Is your team always on the penalty kill in the last 2 minutes?

I have a better request. Please watch the final 2 minutes of the past 5-7 Habs games, then ask yourself, "Who's that #76 I keep seeing on the ice?"

It helps to watch games instead of recycling outdated sound bytes.

I don't see it, that title is for guys like Howe, Orr, Gretzky, ect. Don't see Subban ever being spoken in that conversation, but like you said wait and see.

Not wrong at all. Doughty is elite.
