Pierre: "Claude Giroux, he came onto Gatineau as a walk-on and won the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Rookie of the Year. Didn't make the Flyers out of camp, had to spend some time in the AHL. He really came out during the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals against the Blackhawks and is one of the best players in the NHL."

Emerick: "And we're ready for the opening faceoff live from Consol Energy Center between the Penguins and Islanders."

It's almost like he wants to be known as the guy who knows the history of every player. His knowledge is impressive, but he just beats you over the head with it all game long.

Pierre has yet to realize that trivia doesn't pass for analysis... he knows each player's origin story, but any further insight stops there.

My personal pet peeve regarding trivia on broadcasts, and Pierre's not the only one guilty of this, is when they talk about hockey players from the Ivy League like they're automatically the smartest guys in the room. It sends my eyes rolling every time.

I was helping coach that team earlier in the season. I'm not playing at the moment because I tore my Achilles in August.

Definitely make sure you and your team say hello to "Pops". He's the girls coach and was my coach for the past two years. He loves meeting new players and spreading his knowledge of the game. Straight up class act.

Hahaha its cool, not a lot people realize Rowan actually has a D2 and D3 team. We cut enough kids every year to have two D3 teams in all honesty.

Their supposedly building Rowan its own rink, so I think this program will be NCAA within 5 years or so.

Darroll Powe being from Princeton used to get mentioned ad nauseum, locally and nationally.

I don't think broadcasters can talk about George Parros without mentioning Princeton. Ditto Craig Adams and Dominic Moore and Harvard, and Chris Higgins and Yale.

I remember Emerick mentioning it several times. Right after the goal he said something about the crowd heading for the exits and then later at a Flyers offensive faceoff he said something about the large number of empty red seats.

Hell, I'm not even sure this happens exclusively in hockey broadcasts.

Jeremy Lin....Ryan Fitzpatrick.....their alma mater is constantly shoved down your throat.

Jeremy Lin is the exception... he's the only Ivy League player in the NBA, it's Harvard, AND he's Asian American. That's pretty noteworthy.

NHL has plenty of Ivy League players... most of them are pluggers and goons... so you got into a prestigious school b/c you were good at hockey AND your parents were well off enough to cover your tuition without a scholarship. Congratulations.

It is what it is. We all have our things.

Mine is the complete lack of Hartnell coverage. Other than the one penalty, of which the Flyers had many, he was on his game last night. Doing the hard work for the Read goal that got them to within one was just what the team needed. The 5th goal was just like old times on the powerplay. Hopefully we'll see a lot more of that.

On the down side he needs to grow his hair out, he looks like a dope.

Berube, couturier and mason... All three I had my doubts with. Although with coots it was not exactly doubt, just concern that he could take another step this year or next.
With mason I was doubtful and thought perhaps last season was a fluke. I am ready to say that his performance at this point is no fluke, he's the stud goalie we've been looking for. Berube I was really doubtful he could handle a head coaching spot, simply because his hc experience was limited. I think in Berube we are seeing a true scholar of the game capable of teaching his players to play balanced hockey, like so many of us wanted from lavy and were pining for terry Murray to be named the interim for. Listening to chief be interviewed between periods and showing confidence that the team wasn't out of it going into the third spoke volumes to me. It's one thing for a coach to throw out such a scripted response but it's entirely another for one to sell me on his confidence and then deliver. Kudos to him.

This front office needs to get its collective head out of its ass and stop overpaying has been free agents to fix their problems. This season really can be salvaged if they can move some pieces, hopefully nothing that hurts too deeply, for a friggin defenseman that can skate and get the puck on net. At this point it see like the only one we have that can do both is Coburn. Perhaps it's time to cut the cord with the schenn bros? I think we can acquire what they bring much more easily than what we are missing.

If the coots line keeps performing like this.. does schenn get bumped down to the 3rd line?

You mean you oppose trading for and signing Miller to an 8 year $68 million dollar contract? But it's Ryan Miller!

As much as I love the Schenns, I would be willing to part with them for a key Defenseman. I really think Brayden has a lot of upside, and Luke has the potential to improve... but they just aren't fulfilling the needs of the team right now. If the price were right, I'd definitely consider it.

I'd say you guys are being pretty hard on the broadcast crew, but then I realized that I watched the game with the volume turned off, so that would be a bit hypocritical of me.

I don't mind Pierre as much as most of you, and Doc I give a lot of leeway because he really is a true pro and has earned his spot (I credit Bill for a big part of how I perceive Doc).

I can't stand Olcyk and Milbury.
OK Pierre is maybe just a bit creepy, but I really think he is just a big fan.

Harvard is in hot water these days.. the most common grade given to students is an A. So you justpay for your degree there.

I scored a 1300 on the SATs and failed the college placement test for reading.. had to spend a year in remedial classes learning about the main idea of a paragraph. I'm still in shock at how dumb the class was. I was like Einstein in there.

I really went all over the place with this post. Oops..

Hartsy was magnificent last night.
Pounding the guy in the back of the head was too much, but I can live with that when he plays fired up hockey all night.

The best is still the ESPN telecasts from the mid-90s to the early-mid 2000s with Gary Thorne and Bill Clement. GOLDEN!!!!!

In many regards, I'm starting to believe you're right. Luke, I was excited about when he came... with both brothers playing together. But overall he's been a letdown. Brayden, I like and I think he tries... but he hasn't taken his game to the next level. He has moments of greatness, and then floats back down to a time eater again. He's too small and get's forced off the puck too easy.

Again, for the right price, I'd ship them both out...

Honestly, that wasn't even the most useless penalty of the game. At least he punched someone. Lazy hooking calls in the offensive zone make me crazy.
