Olcyk was raving about Grossman and how "he should put film from this game on his Oylmpic resume"

Which is probably why he's a broadcaster now and not working with an NHL hockey team in any real capacity.

I adore Grossmann and have to defend him from Jsaq all the time. And even I can say last night was far from his best game...

I'm happy to resign him, but they shouldn't be in a rush to throw money at Downie. There's still five months left to play in this season.

This. In the context of the game being played, his quips about players' junior experience is largely insignificant. It's just filler material.
- mcefalu

It's almost like he wants to be known as the guy who knows the history of every player. His knowledge is impressive, but he just beats you over the head with it all game long.

I think Mike Mayock is similar to him in terms of knowledge about players pasts. He calls games for the NFL and college while also doing a ton of pre draft research. Mayock, however, doesn't bludgeon you with meaningless information about each kids college experience. He certainly mentions things, but not even close to the extent of Pierre.

The entire game is L. Schenn's fault for having 2 hands on his stick.

hey, did you know matt read played at bemidji state?!!!

his response to coots after the final question of the post-game interview was full on creep.

I'll never forget a correlation he made between Rich Peverley and Derek Dorsett during a Rangers-B's game last year.

"These guys know each other real well from when they were in the Central division. Lots of battles between these too"

I myself immediately knew this was a bunch of monkey-dung. Dorsett was just breaking into Columbus line-up and Peverley was floating around the Preds line-up and was ultimately waived. I think they may have played a max of 10-15 games against one another, and I doubt both were even in the line-up for all of them.

Pierre knows everything about every player ever. He know's my favorite food is pizza, and I'm just a D-3 ACHA player.

I hate how he needs to give a detailed description of where every player was raised and went to school or played in juniors. He then goes off onto these tangents of who they played with in juniors and how great their coaches in juniors are and where the coaches are today.

We get it, Pierre. You know everyone and everything about everyone. You're like the NSA for hockey.

I don't have a problem with the national coverage giving player backgrounds to the national audience. we know all about the players here but there are many who don't.

Yes but he mentions it about EVERY player. If a guy is having a good game and isn't well known throughout the league (Couturier is known, but not a star) then Pierre can really expand on him and his journey to the league. That's fine.

Even between timeouts I'm ok with him blabbering, but during the game, he needs to stick to the story at hand.

For me, it's Pierre's delivery.

I know not everyone likes Doc Emrick, but for me, Doc could say the exact same things that Pierre says and I'd probably have no problem with it.

Again, last year he was raving during a Flames game about prospect Johnny Gadreau and his dad, Guy.

My college team plays out of the Hollydell rink that Guy Gadreau owns and operates. Pierre more or less went on a 5 minute tanget about how his dad owns a rink and that's how Johnny Gadreau got so good at hockey.

But when Pierre tells you about it on TV, he makes it seem as though he interviewed Johnny and Guy himself. Theres nothing personal or unique about his rants. He just think's he's the only person in the world that know's obscure hockey facts.

Pierre: "Claude Giroux, he came onto Gatineau as a walk-on and won the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Rookie of the Year. Didn't make the Flyers out of camp, had to spend some time in the AHL. He really came out during the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals against the Blackhawks and is one of the best players in the NHL."

Emerick: "And we're ready for the opening faceoff live from Consol Energy Center between the Penguins and Islanders."

you could see the crowd flooding to the exits. when that is happening in philly comments are made about the fans turning on them etc

i'm just annoyed by it after years of hearing the same poop

- -davies-

I remember Emerick mentioning it several times. Right after the goal he said something about the crowd heading for the exits and then later at a Flyers offensive faceoff he said something about the large number of empty red seats.

Did you hear him last night on Tatars 2nd goal? I can't even begin to regurgitate anything close to what he said. It was that extravagant. He made it sound like Tatar did 5 backflips and a handstand whilst scoring with one hand on his stick.

All my man did was pull the puck out from a bunch of peoples legs and shoot it into the net.

My mind was blown, and I'm USE to Pierre McGuire by now.

They did make it seem like Tatar stick handled around 3 guys then ripped one top corner. He fished for a loose puck and shot it into a half empty net. That being said, Tatar had a good game last night.
