Olcyk and Emerick were awful when they kept insisting that Berube worked the refs to get the hook call on the Red Wings early in the third. I am not sure there has been a more obvious penalty committed all year.

There were times when it was the most dominating line I have ever seen.
- MBFlyerfan

At its best, the Legion of Doom was one the 3 most dominating lines of the last 30 years. The other 2 were:
Pitts: Stevens-Lemieux-Tocchet
and
Edm: Tikanen-Gretzky-Kurri

Also there were times I thought I was watching a Hawks game from all of the Blackhawks references made last night. I know Eddie is a former Hawks player and general Hawks homer, but they need to cut it back a bit.

So, thoughts on re-signing Downie to keep the "3rd" line together for a few years? I think he's proven his worth, and that he's matured from his first stint here.
- Rocktane

I'd definitely float some numbers out to his agent and see how close they are to what he wants. I'm not hell bent on getting him signed though. I believe Read and Couturier are the ones who really make that line go. Downey is the perfect compliment.

The Flyers need to stop overpaying for players and not be afraid to let guys walk.

Last nights game shows that the first line is embarrassing and doesn't even pose a threat. Our third line is great. 5 on 5 play our first line doesn't even do anything. It's really hard to watch it pisses me off. We got the two points whic is all that matters. But if we want to be a great team our first line needs to be a threat to score everytime they are out there and that is just not happening.

Last night we learned from Pierre that Giroux and Briere have the same "sweet spot" which apparently is anywhere in the offensive zone.

Leight?

and how they didn't make a peep about the arena emptying out after the 5th goal

if that game were in philly they would have been sure to make negative comments about the flyers fans leaving

The building was half empty to begin with. I give Detroit a bit of a pass considering the city is literally bankrupt.

I am sooo glad they won that one!
I have to admit the officiating in the first period drove me to the bottle.
Some of our penalties were warranted and stupid...
Others were ridiculous considering both sides were doing it but we were the only ones being held to that standard.

I'm so glad they showed some life. Wow our third line is awesome and I hope that Vinny is back soon to get the 2nd one moving again.

The problems didn't amazingly vanish with this team. Far from it. But we actually saw them battle back a bit. And that's nice to see.

amazing that the center ice ref made the call. the o-zone ref was in the opposite corner, but still had a perfectly good view of the play. i thought the officiating was horrid last night.

I hate how he needs to give a detailed description of where every player was raised and went to school or played in juniors. He then goes off onto these tangents of who they played with in juniors and how great their coaches in juniors are and where the coaches are today.

We get it, Pierre. You know everyone and everything about everyone. You're like the NSA for hockey.

I'm happy to resign him, but they shouldn't be in a rush to throw money at Downie. There's still five months left to play in this season.

This. In the context of the game being played, his quips about players' junior experience is largely insignificant. It's just filler material.

The next time Pierre interviews Sean Couturier or Claude Giroux and has love in his eyes, I want Jay Rosehill standing there.

Just in case.

I thought pretty much every Flyers penalty was warranted. Many of them were very stupid and completely unnecessary.

I thought there were times when the officials had chances to even up calls. Wings could have gotten a too many men on the ice penalty. Especially considering the Flyers already got called for one. I, also, thought they let a lot go in the third after the Flyers PP had gotten real hot.

Olcyk was raving about Grossman and how "he should put film from this game on his Oylmpic resume"

Which is probably why he's a broadcaster now and not working with an NHL hockey team in any real capacity.

Yeah I thought that was funny as well considering Grossmann did not have that great of a game, IMO
