Connaughtin ?sp looked pretty good

They have some great forwards
They split up their big guns into two lines tonight

- Marc D

Yeah, Connauton has been pretty solid as a fill. They will need that to continue.

Boychuk hit his head against the boards on a check from behind by Max Pacioretty, crumpled and then when the trainer went out looked like he started convulsing.
Taken on a stretcher to a Montreal hospital.
It looked awful, I hope he is ok.

- Marc D

That was ugly. His expression as he hit his head was chilling. Wow....sucks for Patch because it wasn't really a "dirty" play- looked like Boychuk kind of stumbled as he went into the boards as he got hit....made it that much worse.

Didn't see the convulsing...all the feeds on youtube edited that part out. Don't take this the wrong way, but I'm kind of disappointed as a med student.

The whole idea to change it is a joke. Its an honor to name your team after a peoples name. Redskin isn't offensive, never has been, except to white folk who feel guilty about every little frigging thing.

It must be a burden.

So you guys smacked a pretty good team around tonight. That must've been a bit surprising.

Actually, according to The Uniform Monitor on NFL.com, the Flyers hold that honor, despite them being the writer's "least favorite team in sports":

As a native american, I laugh everytimr you guys claim redskins is offensive.

Have you heard a single native american complain about it?

- Flyersgod

Im white and I laugh too. Lets get rid of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Having an Irish background I'm offended.

Yeah, it's almost exactly the same thing.

Maybe if it were Notre Dame Drunken Irish, or Notre Dame Potato Famine Irish, or Notre Dame Second Class Citizen Irish the comparison would be a bit stronger.

yeah. ill admit im not exactly passionate either way on if it stays or goes, but thats likely because i dont really have a horse in the race.

i personally dont know if they find it offensive or not. i dont know if the term "redskin" is to be considered pejorative, but if it is, i dont think it necessarily extends to the other ones out their like blackhawks and chiefs. i dont think its the simple fact of using a native american reference, but it lies more in the connotation of the portrayal.

More pressure, no doubt. But so long as you know what you're supposed to know, drill it into your head until it's stuck like Irish on whiskey and you'll be fine! (see what I did there?)

Consistency is the problem with the Flyers. We're just never sure what we're gonna get from game to game. Still, there's no arguing they've made quite a bit of progress from the beginning of the season.

i think thats the issue with both of the teams still. the talent is definitely there for both teams. but in this league, the other team is usually talented as well. if you dont combine it with a smart effort, you can lose to anyone.

haha and yes i see your reference. although i can say for certain no person of irish decent would have a problem with it.

Right, I'm not particularly offended, but then again I'm not Native American so it's not an issue I can really speak upon. It's similar, to me, to men debating and deciding women's rights.

I am, however, Irish - almost completely - and even though I didn't grow up in that country, I am offended by what England has done to my ancestral land and therefore I can find some empathy in the situation.

The Blackhawks were a tribe of the region, and 'chiefs' were positions of status, not derogatory names, so they comparison isn't in the same ballpark.

Plus, I really (frank)ing enjoy wrecking stupid arguments.

haha i agree with this a lot man. im not native american at all, therefore i really cant speak as to whether its offensive or not. but from what i gathered, like i said, its to whether the term redskin in of itself is offensive, not the fact that a native american reference is named at all. the blackhawks and chiefs are done in an almost sort of tribute manner to the power and command of the people as a whole. i do not know enough of the connotation of redskin to know if it does in fact slip to an offensive name, but just to me it doesnt have exactly the same reverence as the other two.

but yeah, i also enjoy seeing the flaws in poorly constructed arguments.

i thought it was a tribe as well. but still, choosing to name your team after a tribe wouldnt seem inherently offensive to me. you would hope your squad would embody some of the warrior and comradeship attributes i guess. like i said, i woudnt claim to know the history, connotation, and emotional impact of the word "redskin" on current native americans, but it doesnt really give off the same tone
