See, I knew all this stuff going in... So I made sure to get as much experience as possible. Sadly, the best co-op I got was in highschool... but I also made sure to get involved in as many real-world projects as possible... luckily george brown was awesome for that(not the co-op, that was crap)... So I was helping a group run entrepreneurship classes, teaching people how to build business plans, etc, I took every opportunity to use my graphic design skills to build a portfolio, and I got myself into a class(that was hard as hell) in which your group is assigned a real world client, and you put together a marketing plan based on their objectives.
2 months after I graduated, I had a job, been here for over a year at this point.
And I also started my own company, just in case I didn't get a job. And frankly speaking, I could probably make more money with that... but this is more secure and counts as experience in my field.
But I didn't get the job because I followed the school's curriculum. I got it because I taught myself HTML, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc, and because I went out of my way to get experience. The actual "skills" my classes taught me, have been butt-(frank) useless. - Feeling Glucky?

If you want to be a computer dude you really should know one or two things about Windows OS. So I immediately question Glucky's qualifications, ha! |
