oh its a cash grab nothing more.

the other issue i have with it is that very little of the profs are worth learnign from. now.. this isnt to say that all of them are in this boat, i am sure some actually wanted to teach, but a small minority.

those who can do, those who cant teach

there is a sad amount of truth to that

- Dozzer

I don't know if that's necessarily true. I know most of my profs from George Brown had a fair amount of experience in their fields, and had been at it for a while.

At Western, on the other hand, my business teacher was actually still an Ivey student, or a recent grad... but my Math teacher was a theoretical physicist at the university who was doing research on their dime, and teaching to earn it. But again, that's sciences... where university really is worthwhile.

He was taking direct shots at Alberta like he always does. The thread are not here to bash others places its for hockey and bashing other hockey teams not the city.
- Yeti1181

You take it too serious. I also said Albertans are the hardest working.

I for one look forward to having multiple degrees and still earning less than the guy we call in to fix the toilet when it turns into a fountain
- lumlums

And the kicker is, that guy doesn't even need to hire anyone when his toilet turns into a fountain.

Yes...but I guess what Im really saying is you could argue that someone with a degree has more potential paths, than does someone with a diploma in construction or police services or what have you. Nothing against colleges one bit, but my friends who've graduated have but that one specific skill set...which I do have to say is great that they got the hands on experience through co-ops etcetera...something universties could care less about. Give us your money then get out.
- Colin Dambrauskas

Colin. you went to university right? how many in your class are you aware of that are actually working in their field?

Also, college skill sets will open far more doors than the knowledge gained in university.. plain and simple. I could go to work in any number of construction fields. not just civil engineering.

IF you can get a good job out of university, I agree, you are laughing.. but the success rate coming out of university is absurdly low. not worth the risk unless you have something to fall back on. the debt load is absurd. not everyone is cut out for university trained employment either. but they dont tell you that.

that sucks... i watched an episode of elementary where the same thing happens.. "the subway pusher"

Also i was listening to CBC radio awhile back and they had this husband and wife who used to operate the trains and are suffering from PTSD because of seeing people die by falling on the tracks.

First post I read is an obvious troll from a Colorado fan. He gets a warning and a discussion.

Why the F do we have to deal with these idiots. Ban them, ban their alts, and be done with it. Same for Leafs fans trolling other boards.

- Aetherial

Okay so what does that have to do with me telling people not to be ignorant and disrespectful to others cites and provinces? The Colorado guy was banned as well by the way. I have less tolerance for ignorant comments towards places then I do the hockey trolling.

I'll disagree there, there are many wonderful profs who really enjoy the teaching aspect of their job... at least in the three universities I've been at.

There are definitely a few lazy-ass motherbozakers who just want to sit in their office playing guitar rather than doing what they're paid for, bu most of them are pretty good t least.

Yea, I have respect for the majority of the people I learned from through my years.

another thing that grinds my gears? requiring years of experience for entry level positions. It's absurd.

My brothers-in-law are general contractors so over the years I have got to know a few plumbers/electricians/gas-fitters etc.

Without fail, they all make more than me, work less, and take more holidays.

Yeah, they have to work in sh1tty (sometimes literally) conditions, but then dealing with the idiots in my office is no picnic either

- Aetherial
