I just want my son to have the option to do what he chooses. When the time comes for some fatherly advice, I am going to recommend he becomes an electrician or a plumber.

I have read that also.

When you hear stuff like that though, you have to wonder if the real issue is that people who floss also have other good health habits?

I mean when you think about it, allowing food to rot and calcify under your teeth is pretty gross.

- Aetherial

It certainly goes hand in hand, but flossing alone prevents many diseases which stem from oral hygiene...so, you'd be surprised. And knowing this, I dont floss regularly...kinda like smokers who know they're giving themselves cancer. So, ya.

here is the problem with this..

the employment rate coming out of school is pathetic.

not everyone can have a desk job that pays well.. at least with a trade you have work.

a college education doesnt do much for you if you are still a manager at wendy's.

its the biggest lie of our culture.. school does not equate into employment.. its a gamble.. and is nothing more than proof you are able to start at the bottom of the ladder somewhere.

if i were to do it again, i would go trade work all the way.

all comes down to choice of program at university level...if you take the easy courses...you get what you deserve

Really? We get a warning for that?

How about we start banning trolls for a minimum of one week, no warning. Maybe then there wouldn't be comments about people who live in other cities.

It's important to not be greedy because that leads to working alot to be able to afford what you want. I used to want all the bikes and sleds and a nice house etc.. now i just want to canoe on a quite lake. Being a slave is so unhealthy for your soul.

Biggest lie, IMO is that education= skills & intelligence.

About 0.000% of what you learn in university translates to your field, unless you're studying the sciences. At least with trades you learn and build the skills you're going to be using... and in many cases have an an apprenticeship program that will help you. Internships for business programs are cheap(or free, or even profitable for the company) labor, and you're worked to hell, without being given any tasks that could actually help you in the future.

this too...but its the damn highschools that are making it too easy for kids to get in...no one can fail at stuff anymore. Everyone wins, everyone gets in, everyones happy. Big failure of a system I say...

Well you re being ignorant towards me cause I asked people to stop bashing other cities, provinces or countries. Do you have a problem with people being respectful? Nobody is here trolling right now but yet others are bashing others homes so not sure what trolling has to do with this. But please explain?

well.. while i agree with the premise i dont necessarily agree with the reasoning.

when applying for university.. you need to look at the prospective job market.

for instance.. someone who takes graphic design or web development is heading into a flooded field. so either A: you are outstanding and at the top of not only your class.. but the classes of most schools or B: you know someone

most end up managing a mall outlet store somewhere.. if they're lucky to get the job over all the business majors in the same boat applying for the position.

Some specific jobs are terrible for employment. I heard that Ontario has enough teachers now that if we did not graduate another one for 10 years, we would still have too many.

Something has to give. Almost everyone I know has been affected by massive layoffs. I was at a table with 8 people for dinner yesterday and we all make the same or less than we did 8 years ago, and that is in literal terms.

There is just far less opportunity for far more people. That is why trades are a good idea. There is always demand.

... then again, I have to wonder if too many tradespeople will flood the market in the next 10 years.
