I like a good fight as much as the next hockey fan, but there are a lot of nonsense fights that happen over the course of a season. I'd like those stopped and just concentrate on hockey.

Once they start tinkering poop in the name of safety it never stops. After the war on fighting will be the war on hitting. Than they'll complain the puck is too hard. Sticks are too long.

It will be soccer on ice. Will be magical.

Somehow this is Raffl's fault too.
(Trying to stick to today's theme)

Just annoys me when people who don't play want to change the rules because the players are too stupid to see the dangers. I can't stand it.

My job is more dangerous than a hockey players job and if I didn't like it I'd quit. My job is top 10 most dangerous jobs in the world.

- Flyersgod

Some of it is education. We know way more about concussions than we did 10 and 20 years ago and it takes time for players to understand and behave accordingly.

I'm sorry your job is dangerous and I hope you're compensated accordingly.

Hitting is part of the game on the ice... you might notice that the second a fight breaks out, the whistle blows and the game stops.
- Tomahawk

Fighting is part of the game.

Is the whistle blown when a gigantic hit is laif on something and knocked unconcsious?

Struggling to type on this stupid phone. Ugh..

They've already changed hitting and I think it's been for the better.

There's still plenty of hitting; just no more elbow high head shots.

Cap suicide. Sign Mason to a 4 or 5 year deal, in the $4+ mil range. Win-win!!
- Flyers_V88

no need for 8-9 mill/year long-term deals for goalies. we tried that for 5 minutes, and the flyers will be paying that off for the next 16 years.

mason could be the answer for the next little while, and there's a good chance he'd sign for the 4+ range.

Meh you're paid what youre worth out here.

You are right about the awareness of concussions today compared to decades ago.

I've suffered multiple concussions, all from hits, anf have been beaten up a dozen times on the ice without a concussion.

Its all the "three R's"

Rinaldo, Rosehill, and Raffl.

Get rid of them, and maybe Giroux, Hartnell and Voracek will outscore Crosby. Malkin only 1 point behind by the way.

The hitting is getting more vicious than less in my opinion.

You take responsibility for the inherent known risks of your chosen profession... that's fine. What if you find out, after you've retired, that you were unwittingly exposed to dangers that you had no inkling about? Like construction workers and asbestos, or coal miners and black lung? What then? Just suck it up and expose the next generation too, just because you're big into tradition?

I wish we had an awesome prospect that had the potential to be a first line forward or 1-2 dman.

At best we got a lot of 3-4th liners and 5-6 dmen.

- Flyersgod

A little Pesismestic I think.

Cousins projects to be 3rd line checker with grit and some scoring.

Laughton could be anywhere from a 2 way 2nd line center to a 3rd line center.

I would say between Morin and Hagg, one will be a top pairing guy. Maybe not a number 1 guy, but top pairing isnt bad. The other will be a 2nd pairing guy.

Gostisbere and Alt can projest to be 2nd pairing guys as well. And Laurdsen and Konan project to be 3rd pairing guys.

Lets say half the guys make projections.

We get 2 3rd line players. But better then most 3rd line players IMO.

1 top pairing guy
2 2nd pairing guys
1 3rd pairing guy.

Not including L.Schenn and Gustefsson.

IMO if the Flyers dont trade any of these guys, and either trades for or signs a number 1 guy, they will be set for defense for a long time. And it will be cheap too. Like Rangers cheap.

Erm, Streit's constantly getting fed at the point... he's just missed the net more than he's hit it. Don't forget, he also got a look on the top-PP-unit but couldn't stick. He's struggling because he's simply not that good of a hockey player (anymore) -- not because they aren't putting him in a position to succeed.

Phaneuf, for all his flaws, is twice the player that Mark Streit is, on his very worst day.

- Tomahawk

I agree that Dion is obviously better than Streit, hands down. But Streit hasn't been getting fed much though? I swear literally all of the looks on the PP go through the guys posted on the side boards. In Montreal and in NYI, he was constantly being fed for his one-timer. That NEVER happens here. He gets the puck and dishes it off to one of the guys on the side boards. If he was being set-up for shots like Vinny, I guarantee he would have at least 4-7 goals now. He needs to be used as a viable shooting option, not just a D to move the puck to and have him pass back on the PP.

I'm definitely for getting rid of them all. They are useless as a poop flavored lolli-pop.

The "top" line has been ghastly.

Fighting, imo, should be in response to attempts to hurt your teammates. Nazem Kadri comes to mind as someone who should have been taken to task for his hits in the Minnesota game.

More specifically, if guys who headhunt know they might end up swallowing some blood and teeth, they'll probably think twice about laying the hit.

Fighting is part of the fabric of the sport, not part of the game. If the sport was played in a way where the play kept going while guys were fighting, that would be a different story.

As for hits, they blow the whistle for the injury, not the hit.

Of course not. You educate and teach them about PPE. Fighting isn't the same, but your poiny is well taken.

You win, take out fighting and hitting. Will be a much better product and the players can play till 60.

I admit you're great at changing the point of a debate. And you articulate your thoughts extremely well.

No idea how you can argue what you're arguing.. and I can't debate you on it. Too many false prrmises and fallacies to navigate through.

I see Streit at the top of the umbrella, getting fed from both sides.

That's where he belongs on the PP. Flyers need to give the umbrella a shot. Right now they get out worked down low with the advantage and can't feed a dman to save their lives.

Flyers need to innovate with the team they have. No more following the pack. Try new methods againdt teams and see what works. Instead of doing the same thing over and over again.

Like I said, they could ban fighting officially, but rest assured, there would still be fights. It will just increase the threshold of what triggers a fight... leaving pointless, self-serving, WWF-style fighting behind... and reserving it as the nuclear option that it's purported to be.

Then they better get moving, both skating and passing wise, otherwise every single shot will be in to some opposing sweaters shin pads.

They need to get the pkers out of position to feed the one time point shots. Instead they all stand still and spend 2 minutes thinking about how to pass the puck in the net.
