He didn't have to fight. He chose to fight. Take out fighting and the cooke of the game will dish out more concussions than fighting ever has.

Enforcers don't have a choice... just look at the kind of accusations that Scott Parker levied against Bob Hartley... basically it's fight, even if you're hurt, or you're out of a job.

And what does Matt Cooke have to do with anything? You think Matt Cooke is scared to get jumped by Jay Rosehill? He'd relish turtling, netting his team another PP, and getting a pat on the back when he gets to the bench.

Streit hasn't been the PP dynamo many were expecting, thankfully he's not losing races to pucks, or being manhandled.
- PLindbergh31

Somehow this is Raffl's fault too.

Now imagine how horrible this team would be had the Richards and Carter trades not happened. Farm system and prospect pool was is even worse piss poor shape then. Subtract Simmonds, Couts, Vorecheck and Schenn and keep R&C and missing slot are filled by Low level free agents or worse overpriced underperforming, capkilling free agents.
Building the farm is a long, tedious process. The D pool is growing and the forward talent is already on the big club, sans Laughton. To me, restocking the young talent was the most important aspect of those trades, not the change in the lockerroom.

- KINGKENZO

I wish we had an awesome prospect that had the potential to be a first line forward or 1-2 dman.

At best we got a lot of 3-4th liners and 5-6 dmen.

Want to bet there's more concussions per fight than concussions per hit?

So taking out fighting will make players safer? Why not take out hitting?

Players know the risks to play the game. They get paid quite well for it. This nonsense abouy removing crap from the game is infuriating. All sports are dangerous, we should stop playing them.

And not just on those KO punches, either.

Even those fights when you see a guy hit the side or top of another guy's head repeatedly (after the recipient loses his helmet) could probably produce a concussion as well.

Impossible to quantify. Concussions were taboo for decades. Even today teams try to hide them.

Its alarming how bad streit looks.

Five more years. Yes we can! After rolling around quite many forums today, giving my take on the Hank signing, I have found that as a Flyer fan, I have absolutely nothing to bring to the table.

STREIT!

BRYZ!

GIROUX

Homers signings have made all of us obsolete in the venture of internetz discussion.

And with the advent of litigation over this sort of thing, I suspect this practice on the part of the teams will end shortly.

I think a bigger problem (both in football and hockey) is the tough guy ethos of playing hurt.

I'd guess most of the concussion hiding is on the part of the player these days and not the organization (who might be wary of being sued).

Even if there was a game misconduct, or even a suspension, there would still be fighting in the heat of the moment, or in response to something egregious.

What would be gone would be the pointless sideshow stuff, guys fighting just to stay in the league/lineup, guys getting jumped for good hockey hits, etc. There'd be nothing wrong with that.

Erm, Streit's constantly getting fed at the point... he's just missed the net more than he's hit it. Don't forget, he also got a look on the top-PP-unit but couldn't stick. He's struggling because he's simply not that good of a hockey player (anymore) -- not because they aren't putting him in a position to succeed.

Phaneuf, for all his flaws, is twice the player that Mark Streit is, on his very worst day.

But he's a former captain.

All jokes aside, he really is a much better hockey player (and fighter) than Jody Shelley ever was here. I think that's more of an indictment of Shelley than praise for Rosehill, though.

BTW, this game's going to be on 24/7... can't wait for Rosehill, Downie, Rinaldo or Hartnell to do something stupid so they can cast the entire team in that familiar light.

- Tomahawk

I think Rosehill gets singled out only because he holds the title "enforcer". If Rosehill did not hold this title, fans wouldn't constantly repeat themselves of the same silly complaints. Jay Rosehill's game is no different from Tom Sestito's game, which nobody really had a problem with. We had Jody Shelley hanging on to the enforcer role, so fans were blind to what Sestito was.

With this said, Rosehill didn't hold the Flyers back from the collection of points the team gathered in September and was apart of the eight game points streak, while eating over seven minutes a night. His only issue is he doesn't kill penalties. Other than that, he's a better player than he gets credit for.

Just annoys me when people who don't play want to change the rules because the players are too stupid to see the dangers. I can't stand it.

My job is more dangerous than a hockey players job and if I didn't like it I'd quit. My job is top 10 most dangerous jobs in the world.

I like a good fight as much as the next hockey fan, but there are a lot of nonsense fights that happen over the course of a season. I'd like those stopped and just concentrate on hockey.

Hitting you could take out and prevent a ton of injuries, should we do that as well?

Hitting is part of the game on the ice... you might notice that the second a fight breaks out, the whistle blows and the game stops.
