I don't mind our normal announcers. I just ignore Coatsey - like the bizarre drunk uncle at every family gathering. And I adore Clement.
The NBC announcers annoy me because they are always rooting for the other team.
And Pierre makes me flash to event horizon. I want to gauge my own eyes out...

I love when Eddie O was talking about how Luke Schenn should have been able to cover more ground on that Tatar goal if he had just one hand on the stick, but misspoke at first and accidentally said two hands... then Pierre stupidly chimes in with an anecdote about how the Leafs coaching staff were stressing that he needed to learn to keep both hands on the stick when he was first coming up... Doc is like... hmmm, ok.

No Flyers feed, we got Doc, Pierre & Edzo.

The Read goal is the TP for me. That goal was massive.

- Jsaquella

Totally agree... Read goal got them back in it and gave them confidence going into the 3rd!

i can't make up my mind on him. by no means is he a liability which is good imo and he brings energy, hits, and some speed on his shifts.... but his offensive decision making is so suspect I just don't know yet.

Raffl reminds me of Wellwood with a bit less scoring touch.

I think Pierre kind of hedged at the end, saying something like " but I agree with you, he should have had one hand on the stick..."

Second goal was the result of Grossmann completely blowing his read defensively. He's been (frank)ing horrible tonight
- Jsaquella

Grossmann played top mins and made a lot of good, physical plays in the D zone tonight...took hits to protect the puck then pass up to the forwards etc....the NBC crew were gushing over him at times and he was selected as 3rd star (at least that's what it says on ESPN). That rush on the goal was kind of a tough read because it wasn't clear whether or not Hartnell was going to take that guy and Grossmann kind of cheated over there first...he had that mishandle at the point leading to the odd man rush...no excuse for that...it wasn't his best game....but in ways, he still contributed to the win.

How great is is seeing a bit of patience paying off in regards to Couturier? His confidence is skyrocketing and so is his skating and offensive game.

Kudos to Holmgren for making the move that brought Downie back and Berube for recognizing it as an opportunity to try and find some offensive chemistry for Couturier...if the kid keeps producing it bodes very well for the Flyers...G and Jake won't stay subdued forever...and Vinny back into the mix, there's potential to score like this much more often.

Yup, that was a painful sequence all around. Sure, Schenn would have more reach one-handed, but he loses some control and increases the risk of having it knocked out of his hand. And the fact that Pierre started talking about Toronto coaching him to have 2 hands on his stick when the replay shows he had two hands on his stick and Edzo was clearly talking about Schenn needing more reach, it was just painful...

Add bloviating Doc into the mix and it's a recipe for headsplosions.

Berube really making a believer outta me. It's a shame he didnt get a full camp as THE head coach but oh well. It's gonna be a rough and tumble ride unless homer can work some magic and finally pull that puck moving dman outta his hat.

They should really be shopping Simmonds at this point as a starting piece for a Dman. You have Downie and Hartnell already and I'm pretty sure you could bring up McGinn and not lose a ton of what Simmonds brings to the table that those three other guys cannot fill.

Simmonds and one or (more likely) two 2nd rounders should be enough to get you a solid puckmoving D man.

(FYI I'd rather move Hartnell over Simmonds for contract reasons but that is going to be a tough move to pull off)

He played a very good, solid third period. Prior to that, I felt that he was awful.

Had a bad play at the point where he flubbed handling a drop pass, made a bad read on the second goal and started to the wrong side of the ice and basically stood still on the 3rd goal watching Mason try to corral the puck with two Red Wings sitting on his lap.

Ed Olczyk picked the stars and he raved about Grossmann's play. I'm not sure he was watching the first two periods.

It'd be a shame to move him but I'm always open to making the team better. Right now it seems like he's the most movable piece that'll reap something worthwhile. Not sure that McGinn would do as you said over the course of a season but right now this team is so slow on the blue line I'm open to giving Sami kappanen another shot back there.

Yea my first reaction to the downie trade was misjudged. He's definitely been a shot to the arm On that line. We're not really missing talbot.

Even if technically even, which I am not
Conceding, I don't trade a guy like Simmonds to the Pens unless there is a premium

No interest in watching him terrorize the Flyers

Went to this Philly cheesesteak /Philly sports bar in Hell's Kitchen tonight to watch the game (Shorty's). We were pulling our hair out for the 1st 2 periods and all smiles in the 3rd. My relationship with this Flyers team is thee definition of a love-hate relationship.

Good to see Hartnell on the scoresheet but I'm still not content with his play. His salary and ice time demand much more IMO. Giroux shooting the puck more is a welcome sight to behold.

The Couturier unit just keeps setting the tone for this team. All 3 guys are playing so well. I was a bit vocal and brutal at times earlier in the season about Couturier being basically a tall and lanky second coming of Ron Sutter. I'm gladly eating crow right now. Couturier is growing and developing each day at an amazing clip. I really do see a lot of untapped potential and think (hope) that this is just the beginning. Hard to believe he's only 20.

Mason is still doing his damn thing. Great to see that after he let in that somewhat soft goal from Franzen how he does not get rattled and just refocuses and moves on.

Yawn
up early, got a 6am flight
Great game last night, my 3 stars:

1. Couturier
Wow, just wow. We are watching the birth of a star. This kid will win a Selke Trophy, and soon! Buy the jersey, he's not going anywhere!

2. Read
Another fine game for Mr. Read. He was strong in all 3 zones and seems to always make the smart play with the puck

3. Giroux
Had one of his better games of the year, looked really focused out there. Pretty sure he's due for a hot streak.

Honorable mentions to Downie and Timonen who both played very well.

Just took a look at Couts' stats. If this season turns out as good as it has started, and if he even after that continues the progress, we can look back at those very same stats and say ''ah, remember 12-13? Couts had a major sophmore slump''.

I have to hand it to homer though. What he has done with the third line is noting but splendid. Read, Couts and Downie combine for 8 025 000 dollars. That is counting in Read's and Couts' next year cap.

Heres to hoping it lasts!

I have this really weird feeling tonight (for whatever reason), this team explodes offensively.

That's obviously based on absolutely nothing. Just a strange hunch. I'm not holding my breath.

Nisky is going to be UFA right?
No way I trade Simmonds for a rental.
