But SOG correlate pretty evenly with Corsi/Fenwick. And wouldn't SOG/close take into account score effect as well as Fenwick/close?
- awfside

yes but shots don't tell a whole story.

Neither are actually true. I do a bit of distance running. they actually have what they call a "clydesdale" division in some triathlons and marathons/half-marathons.
- prock

Aye, I have a bit of extra winter insulation, but probably rack up 7-10 hours a week of running (mainly soccer/squash).

Alas it often gets followed by beer drinking

Hey Lums,

In your opinion, is it acceptable to use "manky" to describe something besides a curry?

I ask because I had a cacciatore on the weekend that I suspect was a tad dodgy. I wonder if perhaps it should be referred to as manky instead.

- Aetherial

Absolutely! Manky should be used as much as humanly possible

I rather see d-men put together that compliment each others strengths. Key word compliment, not compensate for weaknesses. Of all last nights pairings I saw Rielly compensate for Fraser's slowness, Phaneuf compensate for Gunnarson's brain farts and hesitation. When Rielly and Gardiner were on the ice together against the opposing teams big line (it happened a few times), the only miscue I saw was Thornton managing to reach around Gardiner and take the puck from him (it happens from time to time, I mean it is Joe Thornton). Most of the time I saw clean break outs and our best offensive chances, both Gardiner and Rielly took shots from the top of the faceoff circle. I believe in certain situations you need the defensive d-man out there to shut things down, but in this NHL puck movement from the blueline is a must. That's why San Jose is so good, their defensive d-men are out there when then they're ahead, not when they're tied or behind.

Can you, or anyone, show where Corsi/Fenwick tells a different story than SOG used in the same manner?

I'm pretty similar. I do a lot of running and cycling, and spend a fair bit of time at the gym. 5+ times a week. But I drink at least 5 days a week too. And I eat a lot. Pretty fit, but still could stand to lose 10 or 15 pounds.

I love drinking.

Just because you're fat, doesn't mean that you can't run.

Just that you can't run fast.

Or far.

Why not.

It is not like other teams are using goons to push us around. We are losing puck battles everywhere, but that is coaching, and hustle.

The Leafs can't possibly play "smaller" than they have been for the past 5 weeks or so.

Allows McC to play less EV mins and more PK mins. Bodie is a big body that can hit and is a pretty good skater for his size. Ashton is that energy guy with speed and maybe chip in a few with that line. A lot better than the 4th line RC's is deploying, but its a pipedream with this coach.

same, maybe 4* a week on the treadmill ... but at 49 years old, I could stand to lose another 10 lbs. maybe.

It seems like your body has a weight it wants to be. It is difficult to maintain below that weight, and unless you really are careless about diet and exercise, it is unlikely you'll go much above that weight.

The problem is "that" weight is not likely the weight where most people want to be.

On a more serious note...

Look at this team, same roster, but Hitchcock or Maclean is the coach.

Do you think they would be this bad??

yeah, drives me nuts. I can't get under 225 no matter what I do. I'd like to get to 210 or 215. I'd be pretty ripped if I were 210. Comes with age I guess. Metabolism isn't what it used to be.

I'm sure I could if I stopped drinking for a while. But I love beer way too much.

Did you notice how SJ played in their own zone? Their forwards were always right up on our dman and kept pressing the puck rather than protecting the middle. Allows SJ to retrieve the puck and break out together as a team. Which is why their possession numbers are so good.

their forecheck was hard nosed and worked well.

i noticed they like to slowly flick the puck in, instead of rifling it along the boards...gives the forwards time to get in there before the D man can even touch the puck, and the goalie cant play the puck either...

TAKE NOTE RANDY YOU USELESS PILE.

Noticed that too, Leafs collapse to the middle and give the other team all day to mess around with the puck ...........
