A win or loss tonight is irrelevant. What's most important is the boys compete level. This game sets up as a perfect momentum turner for the season...
If they come out and play the sharks hard (win or lose) it should provide some confidence going forward. - Pen15
what if they dont compete at all but win?

That's unlikely as they're playing a premier team in the league. But in the off chance that happens I don't think it would do much for the long term of the team.
My simple point if I were RC right now would be getting them to focus on the details of the game and playing properly...forget the score, or the W/L columns....that's just a result of the way they play. |

Carlyle didn't like notion Clarkson playing with Smith and Ashton was a demotion. Noted Smith was one of highest scoring Leafs lately.
Well done Carlyle, well done. |

Christ, is this game even worth watching? San Jose is going to make the Leafs D look awful... at least we'll get to see Joe in action... |

Wrong. They don't need to beat the sharks tonight to turn things around. It happens with every slumping team...their play improves before the W's start rolling in. Playing the sharks hard tonight is far more important than winning/losing. - Pen15
buffalo is 'working hard' and improving their play since Nolan took over, when will their 'W's" start rolling in? They won't cause they just aren't very good.
Are the panthers 'slumping' and on the verge of some 'W's"? no, they suck.
The Leafs aren't 'slumping', they have played this way all season. They just aren't that great and their goalies aren't bailing them out.

Neither of those teams were even a consideration for the playoffs last year nor did they start out 6-1. Leafs are a better team than they are playing like, and he's completely right. An effort twice as good as Montreal with a worse result is better than another phoned in game with a 4-3/2 result. |
