He's out of position defensively on most plays. Yoeu may be impressed when he's "skating all over the ice" but that's not always a good thing. Especially for a dman.

Meh, rielly layed it behind the net to Fraser, and he was like 3 strides from the puck. He didn't outwork his man and got beat to the puck from 3 strides out, and I'm pretty sure the player started behind him.

I'd say if you were to rank all 30 teams in the NHL, in terms of their chances to win a cup in the next 5 years, they're number 30. Easily. Zero chance.

But if you tell them the truth, their refs just ban you. Look at this one:

I don't get why you guys get so offended by someone saying Rielly isn't that good defensively. He's not. He's a great young dman, incredibly talented, but he's just not ready defensively. In my opinion, he should be working on it in junior. He's been benched a couple of times because of it, but some people just continue on insisting it's everyone else's fault.

Come on dude, you are grasping straws here. Rielly defends pretty decent compared to the others who we notice ALOT more. If you are going to blame rielly because he is consistently being paired with different defenders isnt that the problem right there? That there is no consistent pairings within our roster on defense? That there is no consistency? Every player is usually juggled so the defense barely forms chemistry. Doesnt mean its his fault. He has hockey smarts and is smarter than gardiner. He knows when to jump in, fall back and is aware of his surroundings.

I'm not grasping at all. Im telling you I see him out of position, trying to race back, all the time. You insist I'm wrong. We disagree on this. I think you're biased when you're watching, because he truly is impressive to watch. But if you look past the talent, he makes rookie mistakes, and they're causing a lot of goals.

Rielly has been fairly terrible in his own end all year. He passes to teammates who are in awful positions instead of making a smarter player to get the puck out of his own end all the time. That's the major complaint I have with him right now. It's probably better for his development to be playing in the NHL right now but it's hurting the team.

Its an equal blend of blunders and for sure Rielly has been good. If we had a bigger defender in the A who needs a shot we could really use it and it wouldn't hurt Rielly to play World Juniors IMO.
