if you're bringing in Liles, you need Ranger. Sit Gardiner.
You can have your hate, but Ranger is much more stable in his own end than Gardiner.
Gardiner-Rielly is a bad idea if it's not a PP.

What good is being stable in our own end if we're too slow to keep up with the opposing team in our own end?

I was big on Fraser last season, but he's not the same guy. He could be in time, but what can I say, I've spent today listening to puck heads discuss why San Jose is so good on their back end, and it has everything to do with puck movement out of their own zone. You really want to get improve the puck possession and the passing on our team, replace Fraser with Liles. Especially if Liles is back to where he was before his concussion, he was arguably one of our better d-men prior to being concussed. At worse, then you actually can showcase him and maybe move him. Can Fraser not go down to the AHL to get his poop in order? ie. a conditioning stint?

Ranger has been horrible in his own end. He constantly hangs on to the puck too long, and then makes bad decisions.

Yeah, it's partly an issue of him being redundant. the worst of what the Leafs have in spades.

Depends on which Liles it is as well. I'd be willing to give him a shot though, honestly.
Fraser has been playing awful.
If i had to pick 3 pairings it would be:

Phaneuf-Gunnar
Franson-Rielly
Liles-Ranger.

If liles is in, Gardiner doesn't fit anywhere, IMO.
