I've never been so excited to watch the teams other than canada at the world juniors.

When Canada plays Sweden, sabres fans should watch with much eagerness.

- Sabresfan-365

who all do the sabres have in the tournament on team canada? on sweden we have Posler and Ullmark, right? or is Ulmark too old

So are you saying they could have done well with a 2nd overall if they traded down? Because Id agree. But you dont move out any further.

Im talking more about the overall value of a draft pick and not as much as what a certain pick might mean for a team looking back. There are a million scenarios where a team "could have" made a move and taken a better route in the draft but the value of the pick regardless of the player remains. You just dont move out unless its a killer value.

- SiloCity

That's just wrong. So what you are saying is that you are supposed to value the pick more than the actual player?

Possler I believe will be there and I think Ullmark is too old. Zadorov will probably be there for Russia as well. Maybe Compher?

Edit: Canada will have Reinhart

Hopefully the sabres let grigorenko go with zadorov

and Compher is pretty much a lock for usa

We should have a lot of players in the tournament this year, but I don't think any of them are on team Canada.

Not always but in the top of the draft when your picking in a top spot you have to understand the weight that pick has. You dont trade out of a top 1 or 2 spot because you like the guy who wont go until the 10th or 11th overall pick unless your getting a poop ton in return. Its simple.

Not always. I wasn't talking about trading to 10th or 11th either.

Hypothetically we lose the lottery and say Florida picks Reinhart #1.
We have pick 2. Edmonton has pick 4. They love Ekblad, we move to 4 add a few assets and take (insert forward here). Obviously the Sabres have to like someone better than Ekblad or feel that the talent level isnt a huge dropoff. But they can't just base everything off of a chart.

we are on the same page back no more than to 5

farther back more you get like the 5th could get 2 1sts and a prospect

Here are some notable trades where teams moved out of the top spots down and got burned.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/h...aft-day-memorable-trades/

At third overall, the Columbus Blue Jackets swapped picks with Florida, who had the top selection. The Blue Jackets took star forward Rick Nash with the top pick, while the Panthers drafted defenceman Jay Bouwmeester.

A year after trading away Luongo and Jokinen, Milbury developed another brain-cramp. To pry Alexei Yashin out of Ottawa, the Islanders traded the No. 2 pick (Jason Spezza), Zdeno Chara and Bill Muckalt.

Hartford wanted to jump up to second overall, so they traded the sixth-overall pick and forward Sergei Makarov to San Jose to jump four spots.

With the second pick, the Whalers drafted future Hall of Fame defenceman Chris Pronger, who only spent two seasons in the organization. The Sharks drafted Viktor Kozlov at sixth overall and received two solid seasons from Makarov.

If you have a top 1-2....maybe even 3rd overall pick you stick with it!!!

You just have a far greater chance of hitting a top prospect if you stay within the top 3

Not that its uncommon to have excellent players after that in the top 5 but a team in desperate need for great talent you dont pass it up

in this scenario reinhart is off the board

so you left with ekbald small drop off to the otehr forwards. AN established prospect + 2 1st is greater than Ekbald at a spot that you dont need. Not to mention lets be honest with Ekbald the Oilers dont turn into a playoff team over nigh that will be a top 5

You are valuing the pick more than the player. For example. 2012 Edmonton takes Nail Yakupov 1st. Montreal takes Alex Galchenyuk 3rd. There is little drop off there. This draft is very similar. DalColle or Dras are very close to Reinhart talent wise.

IMO dalcolle would be the yak and galy would be the reinhart

Reinhart is very complete the others arent so complete but will be. 2 top 10 picks in 15 draft with 2nds would get us there very quickly

well you guys did good by acquiring Hodgson - steal in my opinion
- MTL1

Steal because he's 10x better than kassian, however he's not a number one and not an upgrade over Roy. Everyone thought he was going to make Vanek and whoever else that plays on his line better, when in reality it's the complete opposite.

When Roy left the PP got worse and that's with vanek and pominville still on the team.
