From Garth thread:

Nolan says McCormick healthy and "good to go," he and LaFontaine are kicking around a couple of different scenarios for the roster move.

So... ?

Flynn or Girgensons sent down? Or waive Scott.

How are we on D? For some reason I thought we had 8 up right now.

Good call. McNabb, McBain, Pysyk, Sulzer all on roster. We're at 8.

trade one of them or send one of the kids back down (if they dont have to clear waivers)...

maybe they should interview me for GM

Obviously I'd love to see McNabb, but I really want to see more of McBain too. He seems to be one of the good ones at getting effective shots on goal. He and Tallinder lead the D-men (not counting Zadorov) in shot %. But I think we all notice how many times our d-men seem to miss the net (typically Ehrhoff this year).

I'd like to see a shots taken vs SOG stat.

Hello fellow suffering fans! Work has been crazy but I have a question for any takers...

If the Sabres finish dead last and win the lotto it is pretty much guaranteed we will draft reinhart and hell take our 2nd line center spot instantly. If we lose it do we draft a cornerstone D man in Ekblad or do we go with Del Colle (spelling?) or Forsberg for example?

depends on who we lose it to.. If we lose to Florida or Edmonton, there is a good chance they pick Ekblad and we still get reinhart. however with Edmonton you never know

Guys like Drastaitl and DalColle are rising. If there isn't a huge drop off from Reinhart, I'm not opposed to trading out of 1 or 2 if someone desperately wants Ekblad

I don't have a degree in understanding Garth but it sounds like he's changing the lineup. My interpretation could be completely wrong though.

The top 2 sound pretty locked in. How far do those you list or some that the padawan has praised in the past last in the draft? Are there other top D-men that would slot in ahead of them for teams needing that more?

I see Florida as our main competition. I'm not sure organizationally if they need defense or forwards more, from what I can tell of their prospects, they could go either way. Tallon is a factor because he'll probably pick the flashier player.

I like Dal Colle A LOT and if we can't get Ekblad or Reinhart, Dal Colle is an excellent consolation prize. I'd prefer Reinhart, or Dal Colle over Ekblad though, unless the Sabres trade Ehrhoff or Myers before the draft (I'd rather trade Ehrhoff at this point.)

I'm more worried about our team in 2015 because obviously everyone wants McDavid but there are some darn good players coming up other than him, it'll be interesting to see where we finish. I see the Islanders finishing worse than us next year, and I see them deferring their pick until 2015 as well, so hopefully we get two studs in 2015. I'm trying not to get too ahead of myself though because poopting the bed and picking top or high in 2014 is still very important.

i am not going to pretend to know a damn thing about prospects.. but the biggest need we have is that top line elite type of player.. if we have that pick available you take reinhart or you trade it away to someone for that type of player (and this is almost impossible).

problem with trading Ehrhoff is the recapture i believe. i don't know all that it entails but if he retires i think we are screwed.. that is going to play a huge part in not wanting to move him

I think we get screwed if he doesn't retire in the last 3 years regardless, yes? I seem to remember reading a breakdown someone did that showed that a buyout in any random year and the recapture weren't all that different, maybe I'm wrong.

Top 5 IMO right now, and this is mostly based on just reading

Reinhart
Ekblad
DalColle
Nylander
Drastaitl/Bennett

If someone is desperate to move from say 4 to 1 to get Ekblad. I would be fine with one of those 6, if you get a lot coming back.

Dunno. The drop off after the top 3 picks is very significant. Dont want to leave the top 2 if thats where we end up. There is little chance someone is going to make you a offer you can refuse this year who wants to move up a few spots

I would say the drop off yes is a little yes but still a drop.
If we are #2 and Ekbald is there ive said this a million times trade that pick to a team who needs a D. You would be able to get 2 1sts and prospect and pick up a rising guy
or
Draft Ekbald trade 1 or 2 D and player for a nice prospect.

Not as much of a drop off but you have to take Reinhart or Ekbald or a big trade
