All of what you said is true, however, Buffalo is going to have pay someone after Miller leaves and Leino is bought out.

I believe their cap payroll for next year is barely at $30M, and that may actually go down, hard as that is to believe.

Hodgson gets a raise
They probably need to sign a goalie with Hackett looking atrocious.

I still think Ott at 4Mil is a really bad investment. They should position themselves to have cap space in a few years

That is not going to be nearly enough to even make the cap floor, depending on what the floor will be, and they will have plenty of cap room with that new TV deal the league signed and how much the cap will increase in the coming years.

I think for guys like Ott, $4M is going to be the new $3M with player salaries rising.

Hackett has been that bad for the Amerks?

Interesting thesis, Kevin.

But, I don't see how we trade Miller as a result......oops, wrong blogger.

For a guy on the worng side of 30 barely on pace for 10 goals? I don't know. Paying guys like Ott 4 mil is what's gonna make it that much more expensive to sign a goal scorer. Imagine what Stafford will get if he scores 17-20 next season

The "C" on his sweater might make him a bit more expensive maybe?

Fixed...

Who cares! The team stinks and it wouldn't matter what they put on his jersey, continually losing just take the wind out of everyone’s sails.

Captain Vanek returns to play with newly drafted center Reinhart?

Off topic here but a simple question..... How many of you jump out of your chair and shout at the top of your lungs when the Sabres score these days? I remember back in the 2005 2006 days I would. I was totally ramped up about every Sabre game and every damn score. Nowadays it is more of a meek little "yea" when they score. Unlike most of you, I am not sold on the build through the draft and only the draft theory. Just because it has worked for 3 or 4 other teams does not guarantee that it will work here. I guess I just don't see this team as much of a contender in 3 or 4 years like you guys seem to think........

i do, for the most part. not every game, not every goal, but i still get pumped.

however, watching the uconn flordia game last night reminded me how awesome it is to cheer for a clutch team.

There are no sure things. Even Crosby and Malkin are not sure things with how they have been hurt.

Just want to quickly address this. As a ref, our only added burden is to be fair with the moderating tools. We're still allowed to be sarcastic jerks when we want to be - though I'm not going to weigh in on whether I think Stash was doing that or not.

'Cause mainly I don't care.

Not me. I cancelled cable yesterday so I won't even be able to watch the games anymore. I'm still a fan but I've got better things to do from now until next October. Plus I save $60 a month...yay!

Cup contenders?

You could put both of them on quite a few teams and they wouldn't get close to winning. A cup run is about the supporting cast.

I say if you put either of them on any team then they become playoff contenders, but that's about it.
