You're right. Hockey Canada execs looked at that and said, "We'll show those faceless internet guys!" Feel free to drink some antifreeze.

Bryz, Hemsky, Belov and Yakapov all have a chance to make their respective countries teams. As for the Canadian team, I think you might be right this time though.

The Canadian Oilers are just a bit too young this time 'round. Canada is far too deep at forward for the management to take a risk on any of them. The Olympics is every bit about defensive responsibility as it is about scoring goals, which are usually at a premium when facing the World's top tenders and D-men. Hall is one of the fastest skaters in the league but he hasn't displayed enough defensive ability this year and has been known to make some bad turnovers. The Team will have a lot of skilled, fast and internationally experienced forwards to choose from.
However, I fully expect that Hall, Nuge & Ebs will be there in 2018, barring injury.

Garbut plays a tough game. The hit wasn't dirty but he could have avoided Bryz's head with a quick lean left.
Too bad Bryz didn't have a bit of Hextall in him. Garbut might have had a face full of goal-stick if he went into a guy like him

Will NHLers be allowed in 2018 they had enough problems getting permissions for 2014?

I'm pretty sure they will be there still. The decline in viewership would be disastrous without the NHL players. The gold medal game has been the flagship event for the winter Olympics since NHL players have been allowed to compete.

Can someone tell me what the (frank) Omission means? My grade 10 brain cannot compromise with that word

Agreed. There's too much money to be made by all concerned. It will be an issue though, but I can't see it not happening.

For starters another goaltender. The two they took are "names" but don't have great numbers this year. Others like Tristan Jarry or Eric Comrie both have better numbers this year.

On forward: Why is Shinkaruk there? He's playing like crap and they say its because he's injured. If he's injured then he should not be there period. Gaunce, Brown (OHL leader), Poirier, Domi and more should get the chance.

On defence: You've got Griffin Reinhart still needing to serve another what 4 games of his previous suspension? So he wont get to play for the first week. Bigras? Really? What about Nurse, Morin etc?

These guys should all be going to camp and get a chance to practice and play in the system and then have the cuts as they usually do.

Nurse wasn't even invited?

I get that they don't want to go into camp with a kajillion dudes, but you'd think another goalie or two and a spare forward or Dman would be wise. Open up that guy who wows his way on.

Reinhart is garbage and he's suspended. Jarry and Comrie are arguably 2 the top 4 goaltenders in the WHL and gotta be near tops in the CHL. You'd think they'd at least bring guys like Nurse, Gaunce, Poire or whatever the (frank) the French kids name is, Domi, etc. to camp.

I'm bothered by this because last years debacle with Spott is still fresh in my mind where they left 4-5 of the best players at camp (Brossoit, Corrado, Wilson, Dumba, Hudon) off the roster because they were "familiar" with dudes like Ryan Murphy, Harrington, Subban and Boone Jenner who were (frank)ing atrocious.

I worry about complacency because I thought the team last year was soaking in it.

Its not just the ommision of Nurse that's at issue. Its the process that is being circumvented and some of the other inclusions are suspect at best. Will it matter to him? Maybe, maybe not. Still stinks.

And as for the play on Bryz. Not sure if you saw Eakins comments on it? He said and I agree, that it was just a guy going hard to the net and he fell and they came together. Just an unfortunate incident and they happen in hockey sometimes. Didn't think it was dirty at all.

- Iggysbff

About Bryz I agree with Eakins and your comments but during that game I think they still should have called a 2 min goalie interference penalty. I say that because earlier our player gets checked by the Dallas Dman into their goalie and we get a 2 min penalty. If the ref is going to make that call he should make the same call on Garbett when he slams into Bryz with no contact from our Dman on the play.

@iggy

Darnell Nurse, defence, Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds (OHL) – It was surprising to see the Edmonton Oilers’ seventh overall pick of the 2013 NHL draft left off the invite list. On paper, he seemed to be one of Canada's best options as a top-four defenceman. He not only possesses an imposing 6-foot-4, 185-pound stature, but he is also a strong skater with top-notch offensive talent. However, he has been caught out of position at times while in the offensive zone. It seems his odd blunders where he gets away from defence-first hockey and the possibility he may struggle a bit on the big ice surface could have been why Hockey Canada chose other defenders over him.

Nurse and Pulock. Morin as a reach, but should have gotten an invitation (upcoming suspension may have a small role).

I'll say this. I'm glad with the fact that only a few players will be cut. Last yr it was very clear they had there team picked before camp started. By far the best defense man at camp and best goalie at camp were cut. I'm not saying they are or will be better then the other players at camp, however if you are clearly the best player at a selection camp and get cut, then they shouldn't have a selection camp

Some guy from the hockey news was on 1260 yesterday and I like the point about there being less media attention to numerous kids at 6am who just had their dreams shattered.

Sounds like Sutter had a say in picks, truth be told if he doesn't want Nurse then I'm fine with it. The guy knows a little bit more about Junior hockey than most in the world.

Sutter is still sour that Eakins and his awesome hair got the Oilers coaching gig over him.

Never gonna agree with every pick, but I thought the camp last yr was a joke. Why have the camp if you clearly have your team. There are gonna be , what 3 cuts? How many d man invites? 8 or 9?
Brent S basically cut everybody he wanted to last summer

Good post. Although I didn't think Harrington was that bad.
I thought last yr was picked from draft pedigrees. I even had an issue with Mackinnon on the team. And I'm a huge fan. If you want him for a top 6 then great, but there were far better choices for 4th line center the NM
