I missed last night's conversation.....did we all agree to make Jason Akeson the captain of the team by March 15th?

He certainly does have a habit of taking himself out of the play by looking for the big hit, though he seems to be getting better with this the last few games.

I still think Luke can be a solid top 4 shutdown guy once he learns to play a more controlled game.

He's made no more or less mistakes than a defenseman is going to make over the course of a game or season, with some games better than others.

Yes, Steve Mason's been great, and he's saved the Flyers in many a game this year. But it's not fair or accurate to say that the defense has played no part in that success...they're not always pretty, and they can get forechecked, and their puck skills aren't great, and they're not the fastest. But at the same time, they aren't conceding so many goals that they can't win, so they're doing something right, you know?

I'm still trying to figure out why the Blue Jackets' mascot is green.

I thought dancing fat guy was ours?
Possibly Coatsey.

EDIT: and I assume the mascots are for the kids... More marketing crap to sell. Less scary than stuffed player dolls... Which honestly terrify me.
You can also send the mascot to events players can't make or where they can't afford bigger names.

I would agree with this. 99% of NHL players are better skaters than 99% of people in the world. (I'm just making up this stat but it sounds good)

Schenn will always lack the foot speed to make up for his bad positioning. But there are many other defensemen who have played in this league who used good hockey sense and positioning to make up for a perceived lack of foot speed. Schenn, at 24, still has time to make these adjustments. And it is not like it happens every time, or even all that often.

Marty McSorely was one of the worst skaters I've ever seen. Yet, if you put him out on a local rink, he'd look like an Olympic speed skater. Prior to the Brashear incident, he was able to anchor himself for parts of 3 decades, albeit in a different era.

They had one, SlapShot. Apparently, he got too close to Homer one day and mysteriously disappeared.

Absolutely the D has been playing much better of late under Berube. They are positioning themselves better in their own zone and making quick passes up to the forwards on a more consistent basis. Also the forwards are doing a much better job of shortening the gaps and in their defensive zone coverage.

Yes Mason has been fantastic, but defense is still a team concept. Now if they can just figure out how to score more than 2 goals a game and get Voracek going, we just may have something here!

For my birthday everyone thought I needed art and booze.
We have a real problem finding my favorite Mead in DE. So my fiancee ordered a case of it for me
He also got me a beautiful tapestry to hang in the guest bedroom. And then took me to a really nice restaurant we'd never tried.
From my friends I got a party, a jug of Kraken rum and a canvas print by Jasmine Becket-Griffith which resembled one of my role-playing char with her arm around a wolf. It's an inside joke as he plays a werewolf in the same game.
Not a bad haul overall.

Bunratty is my favorite. Bennigan's used to include it in their mudslide...

I've tried a ton of others but nothing has the same flavor, consistency, smell, and aftertaste...

We should rotate! Gus then Mez then Gill... rinse repeat. Keep them all healthy and cycled in.

Ya know, if I squint that line reads Go to Mex Grill. Interesting.
I must be missing home or something... No good Tex Mex on the east coast...

NHL mascots make no sense, that's the biggest problem. Like what in the hell does a dragon have to do with the NY Islanders?

Dragons have scales.
Fish have scales.
The Islanders once had a fisherman logo.

Pretty self-explanatory.

Calgary's is as far-fetched as I'll accept.

Harvey the Hound is a hound.
Hounds used to hang out at fire stations.
Firefighters fight fires.
Fires have flames.

This being the last year of his contract I think the longer we go into the season the more likely the Flyers will eat some of that contract.
But I have to agree. It seems strange they can't move him at all.
That said, I'd be ok hanging onto him until the trade deadline.

- FlyersGrace

If he keeps making moves like he did in Nashville, me too.

You're basing that on the assumption that all fires have flames.
