Well despite the loss tonight, I just bought tix for the 12/21 game in columbus. Three hour drive for me from lexington and I am bringing my 4 year old along for his first game. We got some decent seats in section 121 behind the net where the good guys shoot twice Stoked. First live game since 2009.

Nice. They've got the potential, so hopefully the offense wakes soon.

A few thoughts on tonight game.

I really felt like Berube was throwing in the towel when he pulled Emery with 3:20 left in the third. I was wrong. The team responded really well and probably deserved a goal each time they had a man advantage.

I'm not crazy about Meszaros and Schenn as a pair. I would be awesome if we could get Meszaros going but I really thought Berube had something going with Schenn and Gustafsson together. Meszaros also doesn't look all that strong playing the left side. He's shooting a lot but it doesn't look like he's getting all of rocket we know he has by shooting from the left side. He needs to one time it. He needs time and space to fee it up.

Man I hope Vinny will be ready to go Wednesday. This will be my second Wings/Flyers game this season. I would hate to miss Lecavalier twice.

I'll be at Wednesday's game in Detroit and coincidentally I'll also be in Columbus, also a three hour drive. 80 bucks, lower bowl, section 101.

I would like to fit in my first game in Philly this season but if I can't, I'll probably end up going to Toronto or Pittsburgh...well I'll be trying.

Flyers looked especially slow again tonight.
They have to work so hard to get and keep puck possession it's ridiculous.
Simmonds is just about the only forward that can play dump and chase effectively.
They need a puck carrying speedy defenseman in the worst way.
2 games in a row Voracek has really struggled. I wonder when his luck will turn around?
I liked Berube pulling Emery early, why not?

What is the story on Lukko?

I think Luukko has something cooking elsewhere, and figures Ed's not going anywhere. Who knows, maybe he's tired of the amount of work and just wants a break?

Agreed on the defenseman. They waste so much energy and effort on getting out of their own end, they have nothing left when they finally get in the zone. Against a team like the Wild, you need to be able to skate the puck out of the press of the forecheck to exploit it.

Tonight's game is a prime example of the Flyers need for a defenseman that can do that and generate a rush by being able to make an outlet pass to the forward on the far side of the red line on a consistent basis.

Thank you sir! Seeing how we survived tonight's embarrassment with anyone getting hurt, I'll say it's 50/50 I'll see my first ever healthy line up.

The bottom line is that the best players need to step it up and start being the best players. Giroux, Voracek, Hartnell, Simmonds, Streit, etc have all been mediocre at best, downright awful more than that.

None of these guys has lived up to what they were signed for, not even close. Giroux hasnt been playing like he is worth his current contract, let alone the 8 plus he is going to get next season. Just a little more production out of all these guys....just a little, and all of the sudden these low scoring, close losses might be wins.

As a group they have been so underwhelming, and I dare say maybe we have over rated them. Sure a good puck moving 2 way dman would help, but getting the scorers to start scoring would help even more.

To me, it's this simple. It's simply what this team is right now. We're not the fastest team, and the defense simply can't carry the puck well enough, as a whole.

It's just going to take some time to get a few more of the pieces we need. Frustrating, but true.

The goaltending has been carrying the defense all season and that is not going to change this year because the mix of defensemen the flyers have just aren't that good despite the price tag. I do shudder to think at who they are going to overpay next season just to use up their cap money. They can never bank cap space.

if there's anyone we should trade it should be hartnell then coburn and mezsaros

I just will never get the desire to trade Coburn. Not that anyone is beyond being traded but this desire to just move him makes no sense to me

The sequence where Luke Schenn actually made a nice outlet to Fraud Giroux...who is pretty much in alone and refuses to shoot...trying a pass after allowing the other Dman to get back. Thats all you need to know about the Flyers

I will say I want to attach electrodes to G and zap him every time he passes up a prime scoring chance and instead makes a low percentage pass

The thing is, he'll never be 07/08 Coburn again. He just won't. I think the puck to the face, for some reason, ruined him offensively. That said, he is a big, mobile defender. He can carry the puck up the ice, he's an averaget-to-above average puck mover, and, while he doesn't make bone crushing hits, he does play an effective physical game. If you want him to be a top-pair guy, then you're SOL. He is a #3 defenseman, he is paid like one, and that's just what it is.

I really feel like he is underappreciated. ok so he isn't what he was projected to be as the 8th overall pick but none-the-less, he is valuable. to think they got him for Zhitnik. He is the last dman I look to move

The Flyers are one of the worst offensive teams in the NHL, that's not a one game thing, that's the season so far.

It's not dire, and it's not great...the Flyers are a solidly average team.

I don't disagree. Here are my thoughts on that.

It seems that goaltending has become a non-issue with the acquisitions of Mason and Emery. (Although they both have let in some "shoulda-hads" - nobody is perfect, right?)

It seems that Berube has gotten the offense guys to pay attention to their defensive responsibilities.

What I think I see though, is that the offense has to pay too much attention to defense because the defense, while okay, is still the weak link on this team. I think they do need to make a deal or two to strengthen the defensive corps a bit so they can loosen the reigns a little on the offense to allow them to use their skill and creativity a little more.

But what do I know?
