Unless they can get something useful for the roster, they might as well just keep him.

The only kind of trade you'd be making is "your crappy contract for my crappy contract", but really, what does that market even look like?

- johndewar

It's so hard to predict. All it takes is for a couple of contenders to lose a few dmen to injury and all of sudden Mez has some value. Especially if he can stay in the lineup and contribute and the contenders get hit with injuries near the deadline.

I think it will come down to the Flyers and Rangers for 3rd in the Metro and a guaranteed playoff spot. I don't think they will be sellers at the deadline because they will be right on the playoff bubble.
- BiggE

If the Flyers sense as opportunity to make playoff gate $$, no way will they sell at at the TDL.

I still see us on the wrong side of the play-off line this season with our bad start so I think we'll be sellers. Which is why I think they move him at the trade deadline...
I WISH I felt otherwise.

We may END UP on the wrong side of the play-off line, but I think at the deadline we'll still be in the mix, and will not be sellers. The east is pretty weak though. I've been watching Pittsburgh, particularly how little depth they have and how huge the ice time is for their top players and I think they're going to run out of gas again this year.

Last year, they went to the ECF before the tank ran dry, I don't think they'll get that far this year. So, I'm of the opinion that absolutely anything can happen down the stretch.

I would give someone's (preferably not mine) left arm for the Flyers to begin playing consistently solid hockey though. If this team would just play smart, patient hockey they'd be a sure fire playoff team, probably not a serious Cup contender, put a playoff team nonetheless.

Your "Flyers Outlook" piece had me on an emotional roller coaster, Bill, with the Lately's and However's... Good times.

Here's to hoping we score more than 2 goals tonight!

I thought we agreed last night that the best course of action, unless you're guaranteed a playoff spot, it to start to throw games left and right to get a better draft pick.

That could absolutely happen at some point, no doubt.

Problem is, you can't predict or control that. You also don't want to overplay your hand and have some team simply decide to rely on their AHL call ups.

I missed last night's conversation.....did we all agree to make Jason Akeson the captain of the team by March 15th?

If they do want to move him, I think they can get a 5th/6th for him. In a world where Douglas Murray can get you 2 2nd rounders, a healthy (if healthy) Meszaros should be able to get you something with an expiring contract at the TDL.

No, we agreed that the Flyers should have played an all-AHL roster and/or told the players to lose intentionally to get a better draft pick.

Thanks for the update Bill.
Quick question: Do you think Meszaros is in the lineup because they feel he is playing better than Gustafsson or is it to show other teams that he is healthy so they can move him?

- BiggE

i wouldn't mind seeing hal gill worked into the mix more often. i thought he was pretty decent when he got into the lineup.

Oh, that old chestnut.....

Because nothing will help Sean Couturier and Brayden Schenn develop quicker than losing on purpose, right?

The old guy played ok, but who are you going to sit to get him in? If you sit Mez/Gus, are you going to pair Gill with Schenn? It would be the first NHL D pair that you could time with a sundial!

We should rotate! Gus then Mez then Gill... rinse repeat. Keep them all healthy and cycled in.

Ya know, if I squint that line reads Go to Mex Grill. Interesting.
I must be missing home or something... No good Tex Mex on the east coast...

Or telling guys like Lauridsen, Konan, Manning, et. al that it's okay to purposefully lose NHL games when you're called up to the NHL.

Or telling Steve Mason to purposefully let in bad goals to make sure we lose, then resign him (not knowing if he was any better at all).

Or (for me personally) have your STH, who put money in your pocket, be duped into paying money to see team intentionally lose.

All of that, just so you can (hopefully) get a guy who may or may not one day become a good NHL player. So far, Seth Jones, at the 22 game mark of his career, has looked good. But he could have been (and may end up being) the next Roman Hamrlik, who's been about as big of a defnsne bust as a high pick (I don't count Thomas Hickey) as there's been.

Totally agree.

People pay actual dollars to go to those games. Advertisers pay money to advertise during those games when they are on TV.

Take hockey (or sports) out of the equation for a minute.

What credibility would they have, as a business entity, if they just decided to quit on a season?

This isn't a video game.

Am I the only one who thinks the claim of L Schenn being slow are greatly exaggerated?

He seems to catch up with guys well enough to run them into the boards. And he kept up with a forward or two last game trying to break into our zone.

So the Wild mascot confuses me. He's not a real animal. He's a made up one?
