I think the Hawks coaching philosophy is to not go out of your way to finish checks because they don't want someone out of position. If they can within the flow of the game, no problem. Last year they seemed to ramp up the physical play for the playoffs, but appeared to save themselves in the regular season. The goal is to win the Cup, right? That was not directed at you, Mike, just a general question.
- mohel

Absolutely correct, i agree with you. I just think ive seen times where i got ready to see a check because the flow of play would have warranted one and a guy pulls up to go after the puck when he had no chance of effecting the immediate play by chasing the puck. The flashes i have in my head are times when a Hawk player could have laid a solid check on a guy and NOT be extremely out of position thus hurting the team. Totally agree though that as long as they ramp it up in the playoffs its all good.

That 2003 draft was crazy....."The Princess" was the flavor of the month as far as d-men went....because Pete McGuire's lips were literally attached to Dion's middle leg.....

But looking back....damn, that first round alone was NUTZ

Thanks for that Phil. Did you notice Anaheim drafted Perry and Getzlaf both in the first round. Talk about drafting a new franchise quickly.

The situation needs to be addressed when the score is 0-0. And Roussel is not a heavyweight if you go by his listed size.
- 67hawks

Agreed...confront him EARLY and it should be Bollig or Brookbank.

As for running Jamie Benn...he doesn't sweat anyone and HE CAN FIGHT.

Cheers Rob Dawg

And they were able to win a Cup so there is something tangible to show for
those epic picks.

You could argue Seabs' was tossed into the chum filled waters too but his CHARACTER saw him through those tough early years.
- philco28

Yes more so than Keith...

Hawks were very lucky they weren't broken and I think Trent Yawney had a lot to do with that.

Would you take the "A" away from Sharp? Or Keith? i would say Sharp, but every time i get pissed at him he scores a bunch of goals, and hes been very chippy lately after whistles which i dont mind because not many other guys on the team are like that, besides Shaw
- BlazinMike

Not sure Seabrook needs or wnts a letter at this point.

Believe this is 1000 % correct

Keith had 2 full years at Norfolk under Yawney, whereas Seabs played 9 games in Norfolk (including playoffs) and then made the full time jump to Chi the next year.

From a puck to the face right? I wish it was a fist or 7. the other night Jamal Meyers was on NHL network and when he saw a highlight of Bieksa getting rocked into the boards he said something to the effect of, "haha yeah i like to see that, i dont like vancouver". Haha awesome, then Weekes came in and said some kind of, "ok, the rivalry is strong still, i like it". I dont mind Weekes on NHL Tonight, he definitely has gotten more comfortable along with some of the other guys on the Network. Seems like either someone told them to lighten up and have some fun, or they just naturally did it. A few years back though they were all stuttering robots and it was hard to watch in my opinion

Love it. Mayers takin lil shots at the Nucks, now thats good TV. To be honest i find shows like "NHL live" and "NHL on the fly" to be too overloaded with those damn player interviews. I swear there's been so many times where they seemingly have a perfect opportunity at a live look-in at the end of close game between 2 good teams....and right when u think their gonna send u there, all of sudden u hear, "...and now we take u out to Nationwide Area where Dalton Prout is standing by with a few words about his teams BIG win tonight in Columbus, Dalton..."

I'm sure you are correct, and that is the type of guy you want on a team and the type that deserves the letter.

Oh yeah, i gotta agree on that. I really do hate the player interviews they started last season. They annoy the hell out of me. But overall the highlight shows are good i feel. And all the better when you get a nugget like Meyers the other night talking about how he loved seeing Bieksa get clobbered

The character of this team as a group makes following them more fun. It is, I think, a BIG reason they are so good - their talent does help a bit, too.
But there are talented teams that don't do what the Hawks have done.
