Salute Duncs on the FINE year you're having...despite your 1.whatever shooting %

I'll be happy to deal with him busting up shin pads - the guy is a fantastic hockey player and an absolute warrior (see SJ choppers incident). He is as central to the Hawks being a great team as any player on the roster.

I checked in on capgeek.com. With Kostka, Bickell and Khabibulin returning and sending Raanta back to Rockford there isn't enough cap space (as of today).

I think someone would have to be sent down....Remember before all the injuries etc Versteeg was not here.

Agree and acknowledge all of the above. His play this year has been exceptional. Far fewer d'zone gaffes that have plagued him since his Norris win. Have to think he's riding the wave of his outstanding Cup run form into a strong push for a spot on Team Canada, which would seem to be almost automatic.

His discipline is also reflected in just 4 PIM so far.

That is interesting. On the Hawks page it shows them $881 over the cap, which includes the LTIR salaries, and which would be erased by sending a goalie to Rockford. Yet on the GM page you posted it would have them over. I don't get it.

I agree, but it seems to have two answers to the same question. On one page is says they are $881K over the cap (which is fine while the players are on LTIR). This would mean whichever goalie went to Rockford would bring them in compliance. But when you do that on the GM page, it shows them out of compliance. Unless I am not getting something there, which could easily happen!

This would be a cool thing for one of the many beat writers to ask the team. Not holding my breath, though.

The $881K you see if the projected LTIR. Today's cap space is $1,195,822.

You would have to add Kostka's cap hit of $625,000 plus the difference of Khabby vs Raanta ($1,700,000 - $925,000 = $775,000).

$1,195,822 - $625,000 - $775,000 = -$204,178

Apples and oranges Al. Pirri is a single dimensional wantabe #2 center and Keith is well, Keith. 1.3 S% just isn't going to cut it when the folks start talking about the Norris.
- Beaver-Warrior

Disagree. The Norris trophy goes to the most outstanding defensemen allegedly. Keith has been tremendous in his own end, jumping plays in the neutral zone and putting up points whilst dragging around a Seabrook who up until the weekend was looking quite poor and out of the Olympic running.

The guy is a machine right now.

Anyone see Anaheim play a few times this year? They do not look so good on their blueline. In a recent OT game Fowler played 30 minutes. C'mon' they are winning but they aren't that good. Some young talent added this year. I suggest that they are just playing hard and motivated more than other teams. Other teams have not had matched Anaheim's intensity level as often as the mighty Ducks. Until I read or see otherwise, I do not give Anaheima lot of credit. On paper they do not look that great.
- jhawk59

Their blueline was slowwwwwww and aging last year. They are still slowwwwwww this year.

I agree, that is why I said it would be subtraction by addition. I too can see Brookstank flipped at the TDL as a rental since he is a pending UFA and a solid Sopel type added (no I am not suggesting bringing back the catfish)
- ikeane

Brookbank has been playing some pretty solid hockey this year. Very solid in his own end and executing simple plays.

With a healthy Kostaka probs makes Oduya movable if they were going to move anyone.

I find it hysterical that it the battle for the Stanley Cup is that easy a matter that anyone can say there are two road blocks, Avs & Blues.

To me these western league teams are all close in ability and none can be instanly counted outv as weak or roll overs.

I seem to recall two years where nicke dup Hawk teams were put to bed early.

There are no gimmee, and it is very tough to predict anything, especially before you see who Colorado and the Blues (and the Hawks) have to go through to get to that later point.

If there is one thing certain about playoff hockey is there are series upsets.

Just keep thinking about how the silly Blues announcing team during their bed shat against the Sharks kept saying that the players might be looking past this game because they all want the rematch against LA Kings (tonight) to begin.

I think that the season series sometimes act as both wake up calls and message senders between the guys on the ice.
Does it affect outcomes in the playoffs?
I truly think it is less about past memories and more about being able to play as a team and score in the post season. That's where any momentum actually helps feed the cause or effects emotions positively.

Depth man --- Kane Toews Sharp and Hossa are a tough top 4 to match. Toss in Saad Bickell Versteeg and Shaw as secondary scoring threats. Smith and Pirri who have shown good hands in front of the net and Kooga as wild cards.

And a blueline 7 defenders deep, probably 8 if Thor is healthy. Plus expanded rosters during the playoffs.

Wow. Really really tough to compete with that over 7 games. It would take an awful lot all of those players to get cold in the same series.

Interesting whom gets most votes for Norris if given this situation:

1). Keith
2). Subban has big scoring year

If Subban has a Green like 28 goal campaign, he merits extra consideration. If finished with 18 goals and given the rest of his game being what it is, you would think Keith gets the nod. It would be refreshing to see the best all around dman receive the award, not some big number offensive dman. This season I would venture to guess that Keith has a very good opportunity to win it. Hedjna in Colorado playing well so far. Karlsson and Eckman Larsson not quite at their very best this season so far. Any others in the running? Does Kronwall deserve some votes?

Norris should NEVER be awarded on how many goals a d man scores...though the twat hockey literati are often seduced by this. Duncs had 14 goals the year he won. For me: BEST DEFENDER. PERIOD.

That's a question for Stan Bowman and those interviews aren't spur of the moment.
