By trading Couturier and Coburn plus the 11th pick to move up (assuming they knew he'd fall to 4th). Duh!

Jones was a pipe dream...I would have tried to find a way to grab Darnell Nurse...Homer and Mac were already talking...it could have happened. I'm willing to be open minded with Morin, but personally, I would have probably taken Pulock Morrissey or Zadorov in that spot...probably Z.

3 really decent D prospects for 2014 that could all go top 10.

If the draft was today Flyers would pick #9

But come on, we all knew that Jones was a 100% surefire can't-miss, once-in-a-lifetime defenseman. We should have been throwing games left and right just to make sure we could get him.

I would have taken Pulock. But I love the people who think along the lines that Zadorov (or even Jones, for that matter) are automatically better than Morin because they've already had success at the NHL level. It's like someone in 2000 saying that Tanguay is better than Datsyuk because Tanguay had more success to date and Datsyuk might never pan out.

Guys picked after Marshall (41st pick) that were within reach for that pick:
Eric Tangradi (42)
P.K Subban (43)
T.J Galiardi (55)
Wayne Simmonds (61)

Guys that would've been a reach at that pick:
Yannick Weber (73)
Justin Falk (110)
Jamie Benn (129)

total stud there at 42

No, I pay my hard-earned money to see the team win. I don't like paying money to see them throw games. So no, that is not enough. Unless the Flyers allow me to go to games for free, they should be putting the best team possible on the ice every night. Unless you want them to be looked at as a joke (despite ultimately winning) like the Penguins and Nordiques, who basically threw 3-4 consecutive seasons.
- jmatchett383

yes, so when they have a playoff spot locked up and can't gain or lose any ground in the standings and there are two games left, i'm sure we all want all the injured and tired and nicked up players going all out and playing the same minutes they always do, just so you don't feel cheated on your ticket money in game 40. insane

Roland McKeown (D) - Kingston
Haydn Fleury (D) - Red Deer
Leon Draisaitl (LW) - Prince Albert

I'd say as early as it is those are 3 decent choices.

Exactly. So after they purposefully lose 2 (more like 6) games, when should I be expecting my check? Also, I'm expecting my parking would also be compensated as well.

just idiotic. who wouldn't want to rest players to get ready for the playoffs or get a better pick after a terrible year? last year totally sucked and winning those games at the end did nothing to make it better.

Tim is a Moron! He's no better then some of the casual fans who judge harshly before the played we traded for or signed can step on to a plane to get here. We need a new beat writer, no question. I've loved this deal from the start. I don't think we should sign Downie long term but I do feel we should try to get him back for two or three seasons. I'm also hoping we can get Brayden Schenn signed much sooner than later. Brayden Schenn isn't perfect but he's also quietly taken some positive steps the season. I would trade Voracek before I'd move Schenn.

It gave Steve Mason a good stretch of games to build confidence and a good rapport and trust with Jeff Reese, and may well have contributed to his excellent play this year.

Had Mason come in and played poorly, maybe the Flyers go out and compound the original Bryzgalov mistake by trading for Ryan Miller-or maybe Bryz doesn't get bought out and we have him as the starter and Mason riding the pine behind him.

Gostisbehere had 2 PPGs on TWELVE shots against Penn State today.

How in the Hell does a D-man get 12 SOG in a single game?

Have you seen him play? He's on a totally different level. Saw him and gaudreau play last year. They were just so much better. Its my only fear about gostisbehere, that he becomes like jack Johnson. So much natural talent that he never develops a defensive game because he relies solely on his natural ability in college.

Jack Johnson had a reputation of not being very receptive to coaching once in the NHL. That's why his defensive game never developed.

yes, of course. make another stupid trade.....or just don't win some meaningless games at the end of a lost season
- hogweed

If the Flyers had lost the last four games instead of winning all of them they would have picked 5th, one spot behind Nashville. So they still wouldn't have got Seth Jones.

If you want to support a team that actively tanks then the Pens board is just two teams to the right.

Dean Lombardi on JJ:

"Jack was a thoroughbred out there. But he was all over the place. He was awful as a hockey player. As an athlete, you’re going, wow! Look at the way he skates, shoots, he can pass. But he had no idea where he was going. At times, he was playing forward at Michigan. You had no idea what position he was playing. But he had always been the star and he always got his numbers. Then he turns pro and for the first time, we’re telling him ‘whoa, just make the first pass and learn to play in your own end.’ How about making a read in your own end about the right guy to pick up? He was awful."

Classic case of a guy who is soooooooo physically gifted, that nobody even realized he had the hockey sense of a cucumber until he was already suiting up in NHL games... well maybe Carolina did, that's why they unloaded him so quickly and for so little.

Fortunately, as a third rounder, rather than the third overall pick, the Flyers can be patient with Gostisbehere, and let him get his time in at the AHL level and blossom as an all around player, rather than rush him in and force the development at the NHL level, which happened to Johnson.

By function of his tiny frame, I take relief in the idea that Ghost has probably had to rely somewhat on his wits, rather than relying solely on his physical tools to get by. More Marty St. Louis than Chris Gratton, so to speak.

Good point, I'm pretty sure he's intelligent enough to realize that at 5'10, 175lbs he's going to need to play a smart up tempo game just to survive at the pro level.

I figure worst case, he turns into a 3rd pairing guy that can QB the PP, best case, he turns into a faster version of Timonen.
