With Morin, Hagg, Alt and Ghost in the fold, I'm pretty optimistic bout the long term future of the Flyers D. The trick will be getting thru the next couple seasons til some of these kids are ready.

Alt and Lauridson should get good looks at camp next year. That said, there should be no chance of Morin getting more than the tryout games unless he flat-out dominates against NHL competition next year.

Yes sir. You want to talk about a reach of a pick...
- jmatchett383

can someone please list all the guys we could have had with that pick who actually panned out?

see, if he's that far away then it really makes me angry we didn't do after a guy like seth jones who already looks like a stud. the argument is that morin has more of an upside but i can't see that, if jones makes the big club out of the gate, scores goals and plays pretty solid D. unless morin can do all that and solve world hunger then jones was the way to go

Some observations as we head into December:

Steve Mason is the real deal. Case closed

To me, the Flyers lack of offense mainly stems from the inability of the D to move the puck quickly through the neutral zone and some god awful shot selections. Too many forwards pass up good shooting opportunities to try and make a cute play.

Not a fan of Hartnell and Simmonds playing on the same pp unit. Would rather replace one with someone with better puck skills and creativity.

Watching the development of Sean Couturier has been a treat!

Jake Voracek needs to simplify his game. Use your speed and go to the net!

Coburn is quietly having an excellent season, I shudder to think where their D would be without him.

And finally, I am really enjoying today's Eagles game so far!!

I have never been so mad at one player in one period in my life, as I was with Voracek on our first Power Play last night. It's one thing to miss an easy tap in, I can forgive that if it's accidental but on the same Power Play, he leaves the zone while we have pressure, it results in a teammate trying to pass the puck to him while unaware that he left, which turns into a too many men on the ice when the puck touches him. Voracek simply wasn't plugged in last night. I swear, he could look like Hossa one night and a guy who's just showing casing the next.

I like that Coburn is getting the credit he deserves. I'm glad Berube decided to put Timonen and Coburn together. These two have been fantastic whenever they've been match up over the years, it's a shame they've been split up as much as they have been. The during the 2008 playoffs, they were a force.

Couturier has been solid in recent games but I'm more amazed by the effect the Downie trade has had on the team. Nobody would have call Steve Downie a difference maker but I guess it goes to show that you never know who can be a positive influence on a team. Downie has one goal on the season total and it wasn't even scored as a Flyer and yet I still feel like he's been one our best players this season. He always seems to make the right play.

How were they supposed to get Jones with the 11th pick?

By trading Couturier and Coburn plus the 11th pick to move up (assuming they knew he'd fall to 4th). Duh!

Guys picked after Marshall (41st pick) that were within reach for that pick:
Eric Tangradi (42)
P.K Subban (43)
T.J Galiardi (55)
Wayne Simmonds (61)

Guys that would've been a reach at that pick:
Yannick Weber (73)
Justin Falk (110)
Jamie Benn (129)

Oh yes, the infamous "tank to get the best pick possible." So tell me...who's going to give me and every other season ticket holder our money back for the season tickets we paid good money for to watch them throw away games?

They should have traded up to the first overall in 1998 and drafted Datsyuk. No one would have seen it coming.

I hear Ekblad's supposed to be good. So let's just stop putting an NHL team on the ice and lose every game from here on out and draft him, that should go over well with everyone.

Hell, let's just forfeit 82 games every year for 5 years and stock up on some nice picks so that we won't every miss out on a Seth Jones again for a while, then hope that they all turn out like Chris Pronger and not Roman Hamrlik.

Man was Seth Jones awesome last night. I have no way of knowing whether or not we tried to but I wish the Flyers tried to move up in the draft. I also cannot believe three teams passed up on Jones. I also can't believe of all teams Nashville was the one to draft him. That team just continues to pick up top notch young defenseman.

Ekblad is no doubt an awesome player but in a draft that nobody is separating themselves to be the clear cut #1 it might be best to just sit tight at whatever spot the earn.

But but but...he might be really good. We shouldn't try actually WINNING games when we can get good draft picks.

He did look very good, no doubt. I would have personally taken him first, but MacKinnon wasn't exactly a poor choice. However, the fact that he hell to 4th after Barkov had me scratching my head.

ok, so the payoff of having the player you need that may actually help you win the freakin' cup wouldn't be enough? do you just like being argumentative?

No, I pay my hard-earned money to see the team win. I don't like paying money to see them throw games. So no, that is not enough. Unless the Flyers allow me to go to games for free, they should be putting the best team possible on the ice every night. Unless you want them to be looked at as a joke (despite ultimately winning) like the Penguins and Nordiques, who basically threw 3-4 consecutive seasons.
