Some observations as we head into December:

Steve Mason is the real deal. Case closed

To me, the Flyers lack of offense mainly stems from the inability of the D to move the puck quickly through the neutral zone and some god awful shot selections. Too many forwards pass up good shooting opportunities to try and make a cute play.

Not a fan of Hartnell and Simmonds playing on the same pp unit. Would rather replace one with someone with better puck skills and creativity.

Watching the development of Sean Couturier has been a treat!

Jake Voracek needs to simplify his game. Use your speed and go to the net!

Coburn is quietly having an excellent season, I shudder to think where their D would be without him.

And finally, I am really enjoying today's Eagles game so far!!

agree with everything except the football, not watching it
Mason and now Couts have been the highlights so far this year, Braydon Coburn a close third for me, and getting Downie back is fourth

Not an Eagles fan so not enjoying that lol but every point you made is pretty accurate. I would also have to say that the lack of speed is KILLING this team. This system would be much better with great skaters. Simmonds seems to have found a new gear when it comes to his skating (if only his hand eye coordination could match his speed lol)

looking for the perfect shot too much?
although I think the PP looked OK last night, very close a couple of times

Berube seems reluctant to use the 2nd unit, I think the 2nd PP could use Gus to their advantage

Yup, they seem to want to make the perfect pass for the perfect play.......Quick passes and then shoot, get them out of position and moving give them more chances & less chances of shots being blocked.

I think for the most part you let nature take its course...after this season, Timonen goes out to pasture (or in his case, to stud, lol) and Mez goes who knows/cares where. That gives the team an opportunity to bring in new blood on the blueline and they have options. They could promote a prospect or two and both UFA and trades are on the table. If a deal for a top-pairing/producing D man under 30 comes along, I'd consider trading a good young player, but I would try and hold onto the youth...all of it. Phaneuf is a UFA, but the pricetag would certainly be high. Girardi is a UFA and an interesting player...Pitkanen could come cheap coming off injury...but I think we (should) just stand pat and be patient until the right moves become more evident.
- exlund

I would like them to develop someone from within the system, but in reality see them signing a UFA and getting hell from the pundits for the contract.

I don't really care if they over pay a UFA, but hope they get the right guy.

I can't see a trade working out, no team is willing to give up a young top four offensive defenseman without getting back a huge over payment.

Shootouts, All-Star Games, Enforcers, retired number. I don't hate these things, I'm not in love with these things. I just care about winning.

The Shootout is a tie breaker, I'm fine with that. The only thing I don't like about is, I want every goal scored to count our players' state sheet. Meaning, ideally I want a win during game regulation.

I have to admit that I was rough on Raffl early yesterday but he had a really good game last night. At the same time, it doesn't really matter to me whether Rosehill plays or Raffl plays. Rosehill was part of that eight game point streak and even collected a goal during that time while playing more then seven minute a night. Ideally I want a player who can do but as long as the Leafs suit up Colton Orr or the Islanders Eric Bolton, I can live with suiting up Rosehill.

I think the All-Star game is great for kids. It's a great way for young kids to see the skilled players they wouldn't normally see. Retired numbers create awareness for new fans who never got to see past players play.

Nobody has to agree with this, I'm just happy with the result of last game.

Absolutely. He gets past a goal & doesn't allow it to balloon to a second or third goal.

He might have seen it or not...we were drinking & playing Cards Against Humanity while watching, and I was explaining to my stepmom what a "taint" is.

ertz is good but when you can't get ANY points when the defense gives you the ball at midfield 3 different times you have some work to do. a great team scores 21 points from there and leaves them in the dust. a good team gets 10-17 and it is still pretty well over. an average team gets 6. not sure how you get zero, esp when you move the ball so well at times.

I thought Foles looked pretty bad in the second half.

Their clock management was poor.

Hasn't been announced yet, but he's probably facing some sort of supplementary discipline.

What we call an "uneven" night for Mason this year, we would've called "normal" for Bryzgalov last year. Its really nice to have a goalie who delivers consistently superior play.
- Doc_Sarcasm

2 soft goals all season whereas Bryz at times had 2 in the same game

No word even via the teams site or even a scout I asked who follows the Q closely, I watched what happened again & all I saw him do was leave the bench and drop a glove but since the camera didn't focus on him I have no idea if he attempted anything at all.

I'd have to believe it will be at least 3 games since they removed the 10 game automatic suspension recently.

2nd period ended and 2 players got into it one of them being their leading scorer DeLuca & I'd guess Morin wasn't happy the other player wouldn't stop.
