The leafs have been called the fasted team in the League, "slowing it down" is not the way to go. You need to play to your strength. When they outskate the other teams they are successful. when they stop skating you get what you see the last half dozen games.

They slowed it down in the 3rd against pitts, how'd that work out?? They outskated them, outchanced them for 2 periods and then changed their approach and it went to poop.

Their speed has been what gets them turnovers and good chances not their slow defensive style.

Yup, and that same speed should serve them well defensively, but the forwards are flying the zone too early and just not playing good D.

Exactly. There's a time to use your speed and a time to settle things down a bit. They need to figure out when's best to do so.

Also if the d could make a nice outlet pass that would give it a boost. Our d needs to compete harder in our zone.

I ll get murder for this but Ranger actually has very nice outlet pass as does Phaneuf. Gards and Reilly can skate it out. Gunnar meh and franson, well I'm not sure what he doing lately.

Yeah, this is really what's puzzling to me: they've got Rielly, Gardiner, Phaneuf, and Gunnersson back there, all capable of skating it out or making that first pass, but they just can't execute out of their zone.

First pass has been just terrible last 5-6 games.

This years calls and non-calls are embarrassing to the officials and to the league. Officials SHOULD NOT affect the momentum of a game with borderline calls, or non-calls on zero tolerance things like head shots and checking from behind. Zero tolerance for the players should mean zero tolerance for the officials and their screw ups as well. Too bad they can't be benched and replaced for being inept just like the players are. Who's policing the police ? It's not like they're missing calls, they're making brutal, game changing BAD judgement calls.

You can see the frustration in the (Leafs anyways) players faces. I'd love to see a player skate over to a ref, hand him his stick, pull out a white flag, skate back to the bench, and put a soother in his mouth.

Gotta play through bad calls, they happen to every team.

Refs are human and screw up too. And Im pretty sure if they do in fact display gross negligence or incompetence there are consequences to punish them.

I remember Mick Megoo went from a SCF ref to out of the league pretty quickly due to his bombastic style.

Game after game of game changers

I ve noticed the last couple years has been especially bad. More so the suspension. Take seidnberg hit on ryan sticks his elbow clearly out makes contact with head. No hearing and no reason why. It's about as deliberate a head shot. John Scott was less deliberate and he got 7 games.

They say that it all evens out in the end.... can't wait for things to start evening out.

Leafs competitors can push the goalie out of the way for a goal, but the leafs get goals called back for not touching the goalie.

it's gotta start soon.
