so you are saying if the player touches the puck first he can dump the other player?
what about along the boards, is it still legal? or how about skating out of the zone?

It's an absolutely horsecrap rule, but it is the rule for some reason only known to the geniuses at the NHL.

I guess if you manage to touch the puck in this case, you are immune from taking a player down illegally. No matter that the player on the breakaway has clear body position on the pursuer.

It's still a ridiculous rule. There ought are ways that you are allowed to take players out, puck or not. Diving at their feet is not one of them in any circumstance except this one.

It's an inane rule. You lose position on the forward, it should be your responsibility to figure out how to tie him up legally.

I'll never defend the Nucks, but u cannot compare the East to the West. The West is a far tougher conference. Some really good teams from the West will miss the playoffs. Where as say a team like Dallas if they were in the East they would make it for sure. But despite how good they are playing, look how far down the West they are.
