It was a lame trolling attempt, what you don't see is his ban history, which is extensive. - LeafMan
I wouldn't say lame, he used his creativity to crop phaneufs head and conjoin it to a disney princess on paint |

Strange call. But saying refs in control when toronto was given a change to score just before that is silly. - david22
but they werent "given" a chance. that call was for a trip. phaneuf warranted a penalty also but the question asked was what did he do differently than subban? either penalize both or none you cant just arbitrarily pick one thats the problem with the refs. the leafs benefited from a bunch of terrible calls that went against the habs tonight too so it goes both ways, but nothing tops the malkin goal and jvr no goal thse are just awful. |

hbo 24/7 will show the refs during the first intermission giving each other dutch rudders and gloating about that excellent call to disallow the JVR goal - MetroidPrime
will be interesting to see how the " refs" influence comes out in the show. |

i dont think they will talk much about it honestly, but i remember one of the previous seasons showing the refs sitting in the closet they get for a dressing room gloating about how important they are....it was nauseating |

To be fair, they do that a lot in games. Theres a scrum, or somethign like that, they take one guy. Usually don't see it at that point in the game though. |

We need a shake up in the worst way.
Nonis has to pull the trigger on something soon. Burke hesitated to make a change and he was canned.
Nonis has been humming and hawing for weeks about making a deal. Just do something already.
Liles is wasting away in the AHL, our defense is a mess outside of one man, and nobody's value is exactly going up. |

they shouldnt be able to though. it seems like the nhl is the only sport where theres discretion not just for making the decision on what is considered a penalty (which is important) but for when to give one. this "let them play" or the opposite where everything is called is dumb because it means no consistency in the game. i dunno man im only 25 years old but i cant remember the officiating being this bad aside from very small isolated instances. |

the timing is more confusing then the fact there was only one call... but u still don;t see without a slash or late punch. |
