That kind of money goes to someone in there prime. He's also not a top goaltender any more however still great. IMO he should get any more money past 38 except 1 year deals.
- 2raven2

look at the insanity: clowe and clarkson deals

now think, the cap is going up next season, and teams will need to spend. Miller is going to command 5-6 mil per year and get a 5-6 year deal from someone. I'd rather that not be us especially if we give up assets for him.

Look at Streit's deal...it only takes 1-2 teams to hand out stupid money to get these older, declining players a new sweetheart deal. Reason and logic have little to do with it

You can't be serious. $3m? He's going to want 6-7 years at at least $6M per. And he'll get close to that from some desperate team.

5 years 26 million. 5.2 per

Are you nuts... worst deal ever.
- jimmc7722

I think he hit the nail on the head... that's exactly what it would cost... although I said the pick is a round or two lower and it's conditional on him signing an extension... I dunno why you think he's nuts, that's def what it would cost...

How do we fix this mess?

you don't, it's the Islanders

- puckhead17

and you're owner's name is wang

sorry, i can't resist. i am surprised, however, that with all the speed and youth you have you're not getting better. not really a fan of the isles (still pi$$ed about the offsides) but you have some good fans there and i respect that.

are you saying streit is an older, declining player? they way he plays i thought he was a rookie. did paul holmgren know about this? although he did score his first goal the other night 23 games into the season....so there's that

I'll give you regin and carkner for streit...that's how bad regin and carkner have played. Streit was a disaster defensively the last year, but regin and carkner have given us nothing at either end of the ice...except laughter and heartache.

Bailey has not shown enough to get a 5 year deal. At least Hamonic showed something before this year.

Bailey is a bust. Plain and simple. He parlayed a solid second half last year into a five year extension. It was almost as if Snow was desperately looking for a reason to lock Bailey up long term to justify the draft pick and rushing of him to the NHL. Snow saw Bailey's 20 or so solid games last year, ignored the results of the previous four years and locked Bailey up long term.

Hamonic did justify the long term deal, but I feel that his play has dropped significantly since signing the deal. It's frightening. It's as if he got too comfortable and complacent after getting the long term deal, kinda like a Yashin. We can only hope he turns it around and gets back to being the Hammer we saw last spring against Pittsburgh.

IPB has an article on how Garth is looking for a trade partner. Everyone knows how desperate the Isles are and are just looking to pick the Isles apart. Why not bring in a proven coach and if things turn around we know it was the coach? If not then it is the players. The offseason was the time for Garth to look to trade.

Bailey should have gotten no more than a three year deal. I would have rather went for 5 for Hamonic. Many of these guys are way too comfortable. The Vanek trade did not shake them up. They need a coaching change. It needs to be a proven coach.

It's too late for Snow to deal. He's going to get completely ripped off in any trade he makes. He's going to give up the farm for marginal players if he deals now. He should fire the coaches and then try to salvage what he can at the deadline. Then Wang should fire Snow's ass and hire a new GM and team president the day after the Isles season ends.

Snow looking for a trade partner after were 10 points out and not before the season, says it all. Does he believe one goalies is going to make us go on a ten game winning streak while a bunch of teams in front of us go on a significant losing streak?

He probably does think that. He also thought Nabby and Poulin were good enough in goal and the "D" was good enough to make the playoffs. I think it's fair to question his judgment.

Exactly! The last thing the Isles should be doing is making a trade right now. You would think Garth would want to bring in a solid coach that can turn this team around and show he brought in the right players. What one goalie or Dman will turn this team around?

Nabby and Poulin is probably our worst combo in goal in a decade. Joey Macdonald was a better goalie than Poulin.

Snow's in the hot seat.

The 5 yr rebuild is a bust.

The prospects (if they pan out) are still as much as 2-3-4 yrs away from making positive contributions. I guess Strome is the closest and could contribute something this yr or next. DeHaan? I have no faith in.

Now we'll see exactly what Snow is made out of. Does he panic & pull off another useless Moulson for Vanek trade?

Does he trade away another top prospect (Nino for lesser value?)

Does he Stay True to the Course? And rely on the waiver wire and next yrs draft?

Or does he step up and make the deals that really launch this team to the next level? IF.......Thats even possible @ this point!

We have the pieces to make trades. This organization has to start understanding that OUR players are commodities. Not friends and not Children. This is a business, not a kindergarten, not a country club. Start treating these guys like men. You dont produce you get moved.

Snow should be on extremely thin Ice. If he isnt. Wang should be arrested for impersonating an NHL Owner.
The Isles should be interested in Dustin Byfuglien if in fact he is on the trade block.

They should be interested in Kane also if rumors are true that he to is on the block.

Instead we sign Josh Bailey to a long term contract and bring in players like Regin and Bouchard. And resign Nabby who's best days are well behind him.

We should run and run fast away from trading for Miller. He's on the other side of the slope. Down hill. Dont need him dont want him

He needs to trade away the dead weight on the team, waive Regin, Carkner and Bouchard, hire a new coach and just ride the season out. The season is over no matter what anyone tries to say. This team is not good enough to go on a big winning streak, in fact they never had with Cappy as a coach. Wait for next year and start fresh. Hopefully Wang and Snow realize we need lots of help on the back end and to get help you need to spend a little.

I have a hard time believing a proven coach could not do something with guys like Bailey, Grabner, Nelson, and Hamonic along with the young goalies and guys like Strome and Lee. The talent is here to be a much better team. Not a Cup team by a team that can make the playoffs again and at least fight for them.

True and I'm sure he'd fetch a good return based on his past performance. And maybe it would sent a message to the other children on the team that its time to grow up and play and act like Men.

Problem is. You cant trust Snow to get the proper return for anyone we let go.

Right! The schedule coming up is brutal. Get rid of the guys you mentioned and give a look to Strome and Lee. Hire a proven coach or at least let Weigt take over for the rest of the season. Trades should be the last option and no trades for guys that can walk. Only deals for players under contract.

I don't get the hate for Hammer Nelson and KO

KO is playing great, true top 6
Hammer has a horrendous D partner
Nelson is a great player, just cappy hates him

What I find funny is every year he gets worst at UFA. He went from PAP to Boyes and now to Bouchard. If he kept PAP from the beginning our top six would be a lot better off and trading another top six forward wouldn't be such a problem.

KO has been playing very well and next to JT hes been playing with the most heart. Hammer is being asked to play too much minutes along with Amac and Nelson is just a rookie who looks real good when given top six minutes.
