i really, really liked that trade for you guys when it happened, but now i don't understand it as much.

at the risk of beating a dead horse, i feel like you guys traded a consistent 30 goal scorer for a guy who has scored more than 30 goals only once in the past 4 seasons. i understand that moulson benefited a lot from playing with tavares, but he was basically good for 30+ goals this season and vanek is obviously the more skilled and talented player, but in the best case scenario , vanek scores 40 with tavares. that isn't that much of an upgrade where a 1st and 2nd round pick to add with moulson is worth it.

i can tell you hate the chemistry argument against the deal as well, but it's also something to consider. imagine the sedins not playing together...you'd never see those telepathic plays if they were playing apart from each other.

basically, you guys fixed something that wasn't broken.

at the same time though, reports were that moulson wanted way too much money so maybe you had no choice than trade him or let him walk for nothing. but losing that 1st and 2nd round pick, which are easily your best expendable trade pieces, when you really needed them to improve your defense or goaltending is why i think you'd think twice about making that trade every day of the week.

Vanek isn't that good anymore...all Snow was trying to do was make a splash and he got all wet...Buffalo fleeced him...Vanek will be gone by March...

would you rather the rangers force him to play even though he clearly needed more seasoning in the AHL like the isles did with nino?

and it was more like 1/4 of a year total because the 1st "year" he played only in the playoffs and the 2nd "year" he only played 23 games.

if you only get a 1st and a 2nd for vanek, that means you just let moulson walk for nothing and downgraded your 1st and 2nd round picks from a lottery pick to a 16-30 pick and from an early 2nd round pick to a late 2nd round pick.

I also think Nilsson will be better. It helps he did not face any 2-0 yet. He really was not tested in the 1st.

Well, we can't devalue the player upgrade portion of that trade for nearly a full season. If he were to bring back a 1st and prospect, then we essentially traded down in the 1st and dealt a 2nd for a player while getting Vaneks services for the season. The damage in that case is acceptable if not debateable
