They'll be just as effective as the Milbury chants before him. If there was ever a team that doesn't give a shat about their fan base or what they think it'd be this one.

Fans want to have impact? Do not buy these stadium jerseys and have 500 fans showing up to the games. Chants will mean very little.

Because at that time, Wang should have or will be getting ready to sell the team. The new owner, unhindered by all the crap that has gone on in Nassau, will want a winner.

Would be a wonderful thing but I don't see it happening.

That's what will be happening. They are quicly becoming irrelevant and are already there for a lot of fans.

Truer words were never spoken. But, as we all know, no money will be spent until they move to Brooklyn.

Why oh why do people think that money will all of a sudden be spent once we reach this magical land called Brooklyn???

It gives people hope X and something to look forward to when they reach Brooklyn. I do think the payroll will be higher. We shall see.

Trade won't help this team as long as we have Capuano as coach. Funny how our super genius GM is not aware of this?

It's true that they keep the payroll low but they weren't planning on losing their veteran goaltender and best defenseman. Only hope is that de Haan stays healthy and gets experience.

Our veteran goaltender was playing horrible and nevet shouldve been resigned. Vis is a top four on any other team. Snow screwed this team with his inactivity in the offseason. There's no justifying it and there's no excuse.

Article from Hockey News.com:

The NHL’s Christmas trade freeze period (Dec. 19 to 27) is fast approaching and the GMs of several struggling clubs hope the trade market improves before then. With 22 clubs possessing less than $5 million in cap space, it’s difficult to find willing trade partners.

New York Islanders GM Garth Snow is among those trying to find help for his floundering team. Entering this week, the Isles are 11 points out of a post-season berth, winning only two of their past 10 games. Snow must address their dire need of an experienced starting goalie and blueline depth soon to prevent his club sliding further out of playoff contention.

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reported two league sources claim Snow was shopping for a goalie. Garrioch suggested Buffalo Sabres netminder Ryan Miller as the best target, though he admitted convincing Miller to waive his no-trade clause to join the Isles was a long shot. Garrrioch also considers the Islanders a potential trade destination for Washington Capitals right winger Martin Erat and his $4.5 million annual cap hit.

Snow has the cap space ($16.6 million) to take on a big salary. Having already acquired Thomas Vanek, Snow’s probably not keen to pursue Miller, especially as the Sabres will squeeze him for young assets. As for Erat, he won’t resolve the Isles’ defensive problems.

Beyond Miller, there aren’t many goaltending options for Snow. With Viktor Fasth sidelined a month with a lower-body injury, the Anaheim Ducks won’t be shopping Jonas Hiller.

The struggling Toronto Maple Leafs might entertain offers for James Reimer, but they’re reportedly seeking blueline depth, which rules out the Isles as a trade partner.

Ottawa Senators backup Robin Lehner has outplayed starter Craig Anderson, but it’s doubtful GM Bryan Murray breaks up that tandem. Like the Isles, Murray is seeking blueline help, so there’s no match between those two teams.

Snow’s best target could be the Carolina Hurricanes, who could shop Justin Peters once Anton Khudobin returns from injury. Peters has yet to establish himself as an NHL goalie, but he played well filling in for Khudobin and starter Cam Ward when both were sidelined last month. The Hurricanes are also believed to be shopping veteran defenseman Tim Gleason.

The Hurricanes are in the market for a puck-moving defenseman, but if the Isles would take on Gleason and Peters, it would free up cap space for the Hurricanes to pursue Toronto’s John-Michael Liles.

Speaking of Erat, CSN Washington’s Chuck Gormley believes the Capitals should try to land a “hard-edged defenseman” with a left-hand shot who can log big minutes alongside Mike Green.

Gormley listed Dmitry Kulikov (Florida Panthers), Michael Del Zotto (New York Rangers), Andrej Meszaros (Philadelphia Flyers), Nikita Nikitin (Columbus Blue Jackets), Alec Martinez (Los Angeles Kings), Francis Bouillon (Montreal Canadiens) and Paul Ranger (Toronto Maple Leafs) as trade options.

Bouillon would be the only one considered “hard-edged,” but he’s 38 and no longer capable of playing more 20 minutes per game. The Canadiens have no interest in Erat or his contract.

Gormley also noted a report claiming the Vancouver Canucks had “mild interest” in Erat and wondered if packaging the unhappy winger with equally disgruntled blueliner Dmitry Orlov and backup Michal Neuvirth could pry blueliner Dan Hamhuis away from the Canucks.

Though the Canucks are in need of scoring punch, they’ll likely pass on Erat as they already have an expensive underachiever in David Booth on their roster. They also already have a backup goalie in Eddie Lack, who they recently re-signed to a two-year, one-way contract.

No thanks on Erat or Miller. Hard to see many trade options that can turn this team around. Garth wants to find help for the team? Get a new coach.

I know everyone what's a coaching change. However I believe he been set up to fail. No coach in the league can turn this team around. God himself couldn't turn it around. What coach in the league today can get 30% more out of PMB, Regin. I don't even want to get started on the defence. The players need to go first. Then if all fails then the coach. That all said can I be the one to take the head of Garth Snow?

The Jets blogger relays some rumors about them shopping Buff around the league. I imagine that the asking price would be pretty high, but I am assuming that if it is indeed true that the Islanders would have some interest.

Certainly not a proven theory but reasonable to surmise that the team will be in position for the first time in over two decades to be in the black. At that point, spending more isn't just tossing $ into oblivion. By that train of thought, winning becomes more essential.

I do think the team will look to spend more at that point and happen to believe that having NOT spent over the last several years can be considered exhibit A as to why they will. You don't weather a storm like this for this long, taking huge financial losses annually, without the idea of maximizing your profits down the road. The acquisition of Vanek speaks to that, risky as it may have been.

There's a fine line between patience and stubborness and unfortuantely I think we'll continue to see stubborness when it comes to their keeping Cappy around.
My bet is Snow looks at it like this:
The Isles came into the season with virtually the same season as last with hopeful upgrades of Boyes to PMB and Aucoin to Regin. Suddenly they lost their slated top two defensemen and PMB and Regin ended up being disasters. Secondary scoring started well, then it went to crap.

So from Snow's standpoint, I'm guessing he feels that Cappy is a victim of circumstance, which most of us agree he's largely contributed to that circumstance. I think we're probably 5-7 games ahead of this pace with a decent coach right now. Even with Cappy I think we're probably 5-7 games better with Vis and Strait in the lineup.

Snow's total failure this year is based on settling for PMB and Regin while not upgrading the empty slot left by Streit. If Strome moves up to take Regin's slot and Vis and Stait return, I think this team dramatically turns things around. Unfortunately it will likely be too late for that.

A better coach would have adjusted this teams forecheck heavy system to suit their undermanned defense. You can't send three guys deep and then ask players like Amac and Hamonic to play the backline unsupported. Add in obvious failures in keeping these dmen on playing sound fundamental defense and it's a complete disaster. Short term, I'd prefer we nail Cappy on this one. Long term, Garth needs to answer the call.
