IF this is what Dreger is reporting, I'd move Grabner without thinking twice.

Top 6 forward is the price. Targets could include Grabner, Hudler, or Ruutu. - eichiefs9
Gardiner for Grabner would be a steal for the islanders at this point. |

All 3 are decent top-6 forwards. None are going to blow anyone away. |

Mr. Stone hands.... in a nano second
I'm not a supporter of Grabner only bc he's one dimensional on a team that lacks a ton. He might do well somewhere else but really don't care.
I have watched a lot of TO games and like Gardiners game a lot, where he's young, mobile and really not bad defensively either. Would immediately improve our defense for now and future...
I believe IF those players are true, I would think TO would prefer Grabs only bc of youth, speed, salary, so if true pull the trigger.... |

Ruutu and Hudler have better track records but are also older, injury prone and both make $$$ compared to Grabs.
With TO spending a lot in FA and might be close to cap, I would choose the lesser of contracts plus the other factors I listed.
Both teams will benefit from this. |

It's almost impossible to do that. When was the last time a team gave up a young Defensemqn for a pick ? - Isles316

I'm not familar with Gardiner so it's hard to talk about a Grabner for Gardiner trade. I'd love to see Grabner with a real coach. I'd love for the Isles to get some good vet dmen with some years left to go with guys like Hamonic, Reinhart and Pulock. You need good vets to go with the prospects for a real rebuild. - ses111
There's no way TO is doing Gardiner for Grabner,I would, we have offense to bring up,Strome 2 more points today,4th in ahl in scoring |

The truth of the matter is this...Garth had a window this summer and he missed it. He had a window to address the defense and he didn't. In fact, the defense is by far WORSE than it was last season. Snow had all this positive buzz surrounding the Isles and its first round effort. It was similar to when the Pens lost to Ottawa in Sid's first trip to the playoffs or Ovie's in Washington. Both of those organizations put the word out "you want to come play with our young studs" by putting money out for UFA's and addressing holes, bringing in vets to fill holes. Snow didn't.
Garth decided to let the D stand pat. Not signing Streit to his demand was smart. Philly will hate that contract by this July. That said, instead of building upon our momentum and getting good stay at home middle of the D type defensemen like a Rob Scuderri or an Andrew Ferrance type dman, we got NOTHING. This is why Garth needs to be clobbered in the press and why the Isles suck this season. We had 3 regular NHL dmen returning this season- Lubo, Hamonic, and Amac. Everyone else was a fringe nhl dman at best- Strait, Hickey, Carnker or someone hoping to land a spot from the minors- Donovan. Garth seriously failed in evaluating this group- the Isles went for D on the cheap thinking these could be place holders until the likes of Reinhart and other D prospects make it...that is a minimum of a year away and more likely 2+ before they are key contributors. So we do the Isles cha cha... 1 season forward and three seasons backwards. All that buzz around the organization is gone from last summer...we won't resign Vanek so spending those additional picks to Buffalo is terrible...and we will still have a gaping hole in net and on our blueline for the next three seasons.
Garth and Wang blew it. They blew it the minute they thought they could get away with this defense as an nhl defense. Until Wang is willing to spend on GOOD nhl vets to bring along his young talent, we will get these seasons over and over...just now in Brooklyn rather than Uniondale. |

I do think the Isles can survive trading Grabner with a guy like Strome in the wings. I've heard good things about Gardiner. I'd love to get Gardiner and Reimer. Isles would have to give up way too much though. |

Excellent post! Garth and Charles missed out on the good buzz of the Isles making the playoffs. Even with Reinhart making the team next year, he will struggle like most young dman. It's tough for vet dmen in the NHL today. The Brooklyn news and with the team making the playoffs last year, that should have ended bringing in the Regin and PMB type guys and no way should they have brought back Nabby. These offseason moves sent a bad message to the fanbase, the team, and rest of the NHL. |

We really do not know what TO is looking for, I have heard that TO is looking for a C so that's where Grabs makes no sense, but he helps deepen their offensive weapons for sure....
I just looked at TO roster on capgeek, and saw that next year they will have only 11 players signed with $22M to spend, just Phaneuf & Reimer eat half of that easily, plus a few others that are important to that team Franson, Raymond, Kulimen etc... and after this year they have Bernier & Kadri, so they cant pay everyone big $$$ |

Couple thoughts on Strome: He's been at C all season, so only spot he'd take with #Isles is Regin's. Can Strome play that role?
Why not? Wouldn't even miss Regin...should be waived... |
