What, 91 games coached? just barely over a season, let's not forget that.
- LeafMan

fair enough, but the Leafs right now, look very much like a team about to implode like before when Carlyle took over.

I see no net improvement. HORRIBLE team defense, and defensemen playing like they don't have a clue. Forwards unmotivated to play a sound defensive game... It all looks very familiar.

Its just sad to watch a team with abilities, play like this. They have no jump, they have had to dominance in any way. At least last year they were bullies. This year they can't even do that right. Our biggest bully is Kardi for FS.

...Every team in every season has roller coaster rides.

This is part of the ride that descends.

I agree but I think we tend to say it is three seasons but in reality it is barely over a full season, I understand the frustration, I see it too,

You don't sense an epic and embarassing collapse, a la 2011-2012?

Since the first 2 weeks of the season, they are not a playoff team. That is a significant stretch of mediocrity.

Yes, they have had more than their fair share of injuries and suspensions, but even a bunch of minor leaguers could learn and play a system.

- Aetherial

But they currently are in the playoffs?... weird man

I understand your sentiment...
The thing is, we have seen this movie before. Many times, over many years.

If they don't improve some fundamentals, there is no chance for a playoff spot.

They had been imploding for a month or more before Carlyle was hired on.

As I remember it, leafs were awesome, they gave the extension to the head coach for a reward, leafs struggle in Jan and Feb..... then suck the rest of the way...

I am talking about generally poor play, with a few unconvincing wins for more than a month.

This is the leafs. of course we have seen this before.

They haven't won a damn thing for 50 years.

But as of right now. this team is 4 points of out 1st place. That equates to 2 wins.

Saying the coach is tuned out and this team needs to trade everyone is silly.... incredibly foolish.

I have been a life long fan and at 47, I would like to be able to cheer for my team. All I am saying, is they now have the tools, I would like to see them use the friggin things correctly.

2 wins out of first in the conference. and it's not working.

Some of you guys man.

Happy trigger finger.

- Cherry--Skoal

look at the overall picture

the leafs got to this point because

A: young team so they had their legs sooner than most teams

B: their goaltending was alien - esque

C: their schedule up to this point was relatively easy

now that the rest of the league is catching up conditioning wise, their goalies are coming back down to earth and they are actually starting to play the top teams more frequently.. the crash is coming.. and its coming fast

... How long does Carlyle get a free pass?

At some point, don't you have to look at this and question the coaching?

If we want a shot at McDavid, we trade Phaneuf. Without Phaneuf, I think we have the worst D in the entire league right now.

Count the number of times a game where a Leafs dman gives away the puck in his own zone. It is startling.

- Aetherial

It pains me to say it but Liles should be playing FFS.

First off yes officiating is brutal, there has been some unbelievable calls of late on the Leafs. Secondly, this hot and cold and playing half a game is not a new problem. The Leafs have been hot and cold and downright lazy, on and off, for years. Is it something in the water they drink? Are they hitting the bar the night before game day? Dunno, but watching them play is very frustrating..........they don't seem to have the backbone to pay the price night after night over the course of the regular season.

glass half empty, eh.

since the leafs have a challenging schedule. that means that every other team in the conference has an easy one?

when they are playing the leafs they do

no team.. not the 1980's oilers, not the 70's habs.. can play a style where they are routinely out shot 2-1 and continue to win.

its never happened before.. and its not going to happen now.

they are 5 points from not making the playoffs. That equates to just a few more losses....the glass can also be half empty.
The team is not responding to the coach, hence the absolutely insane amount of inconsistency. That is called 'tuned out'.
