Exactly, but I don't think his defensive system compliments the offensive style players we have at all.
- markmark

He wants to protect the middle of the ice, when we finally retrieve the puck, we have no one along the boards to pass to in order to break out. Always have to pass it through the middle (big no no) or chip it out along the boards.

Leafs look like they're in an identity crisis...

But I think some comments here are starting to look more true (especially with our current roster). RC's defensive system doesn't fit our defense or our "rushing forwards" which he says they don't want to be.

YES THEY DO. The better part of them are less than 200. They aren't going to be bashing people around. THEY SKATE.

The big circles around the net really piss me off when they are getting back into their own zone.

The only time Kessel back-checked last night was when he completely (frank)ed up and handed the Pens the puck on their blue line.

We have gone through this, time to move on to the Buffalo game. I'm sure Nonis or someone in the organization will address this internally with the league at some point or at the meetings. Nothing the Leafs can do about it, the more they complain on the ice the more that will get called against them.

Leafs need to keep their feet moving.

Wouldn't you agree - if you continually give up 40 to 50 shots a game you're going to be on the losing end of some of those games. Goaltending, no matter how good they are, can't win every time for you.

When you score five goals in a game, that should be sufficient to win, on most nights anyways.

THIS!

when the (frank) did that start up again?! its like they all decided to skate like the Kadri of 3 years ago.

Hit the breaks, turn around and get on your damn horse.

Replying to LM, I would take Clarkson over Mac too, but at 2 million more when we have other glaring issues, I dont know.
- peddy-93

There was really no option to keep MacArthur though, he wanted to leave. Clarkson is a good player, he's not a 5.75 million dollar player but UFA sometimes end up in a bidding war I guess.

I wonder who "they" is when Carlyle said "well that would be critiquing the officials and they say we're not allowed to do that."

it shocks me that there are guys in the NHL who dont just do that out of instinct.

all that work to get to this level... and its the type of thing that should be drilled into a players head by the age of 8 years old.

unbelievable

RC just needs to start benching guys for a shift everytime they decide to go for a big skate. pull them off the ice and tell they take the next shift off. everytime.. every single time.. to every player.

it will sink in.

I have no idea, I assume Bettman, Daly or head of the refs, is it Gregson?

Stuff like that should be handled internally by the GM or president, not the coach.

No kidding. I remember being in minor hockey and doing suicides. Guess what happened if one player curled instead of stopped and started... EVERYONE goes again.

This is the time when Rogers needs to phone up Bettman, show him some clips of last nights calls/non-calls, and tell them that now that they are paying him a boat load, he needs to clean this poop up.

EXACTLY

this type of thing should never even be seen in the NHL.. let alone be a team wide problem regularly

one of three things need to happen

1: Nonis needs to change the personnel to suit Randy's systems

2: Randy needs to change his systems to suit the personnel

3: Nonis needs to fire Randy and find a coach who will apply a system that suits the personnel

- Dozzer

1.Since Nonis is handcuffed by the cap I don't see too many moves he can make other than minor tinkering.

2.Carlyle appears too stubborn to change his style. He is adamant that a square peg will indeed fit in a round hole if it is shouted at enough.

3.seems the only choice at this point, and I'm sure over the next ten days we will see how viable that option may be.

That could work, good idea! And why is goaltender interference not reviewable!! But a high stick is?? What's the difference, both are illegal plays that result in a goal. Yet one is reviewable and one isn't?? Terrible.
