He's still one of the best players on the Habs and will be for another 3-4 years.

If he doesn't resign with the Habs, he'll get his money elsewhere and we all know the poopfest that will ensue.

He might still end up top 3 scorer on this team...

For Markov, maybe. But I think you underestimate the impact of the cap management.

As Bergevin said in an interview, nowadays, you not only have to like the player you sign or trade for, but you have to like his contract. Those that meet those two criterias are worth a lot.
