Happy Thanksgiving to you, too. I was thinking of Maggie after reading your post - he was famous for showing up and often coming up on the short end of the fight. His teammates loved him for it, and I'm sure Bollig's teammates loved him going last night. His body might not agree, however...

Gosh, I hope the Hawks can keep this up in Dallas. A bad loss, and we'll need to trade Seabrook, and get more guys that can fight

Happy turkey day, all.

Looks like Pirri committed an unmentionable last night. He rode the bench after the second goal for the rest of the night.
- rtang415

I don't think anyone road pine as much as Q was trying tons of combos.
It is a maturation process and guys like Pirri better come hungry and with quick steps, on each shift.

I just don't see singling out him while the team genersted 50 scoring opprtunbities in the first and spent most of the game in the attack zone.

You have ot wonder what these fans think when the Hawks come in and basically have the puck this clear disproportionate amount of time, and "globe- trot" and beat them to the pucks so much.

I was happy for Raanta and like his maturity in the interviews. Yeah four big time saves and that soccer head butt gem, but
he still has to catch up in terms of understanding that all NHLers can murder in so many ways.

You are probably right there as he did have a shift or two after. My point was that people should not put too much into it as Q did the same with Saad last year. I suggested that this was to get his attention and nothing more. Hopefully he responds the way Saad did and comes back all the more next game.

Yeah echoing the Thankfulness I have.
No one more than me realizes that in my life so many abd things happen that could have taken me down, but somehow I am here, alive, never convicted of any crimes, and able to say I have seem three cups in my lifetime and that every game now is as exciting as the rebuild that lead to 2010.

My father was shot & kiled when I was 15, and let's just say it made a pretty nasty angry young man.
Early on New Years Eve in 1969 my good friend Mike Weaver pointed what he though was an unloaded 25 mm at me (one in the chamber) and shot me in the head. The even weird part was the next New Years eve a really frigid one in Chicago, his other best friend and he drove into his garage drunk from a festive night, and Mike went inot the hosue while Billy wanted to finish listerning to Jethro Tull Aqualung…and Billy turned the car on and died when he fell asleep.
Anyway although it lacerate dmy skull in didn't penetrate, leaving me dingy and in need of blood but able to recoup save for the fact they cut a patch out of my shoulder length hair and my part line.

Lots of other bad choices that could have easily changed my path.

Dump reactions and implosive actions even into the twenties that also could have changed things from the way they turned out.

So I am thankful thing broke for me the way they did…am everyday I try and do stuff to reciprocate outside my comfort zone.

And I just feel there is lost more to do and fun to have…and am thankful I get to. My firnd Mike just got out of prison after an extended stay. Other good friends came back from the Vietnam war hooked on heroin, and never able to overcome the addiction. So many others did stupid stuff and are gone to.
It wasn't like I above their actions, and easily might not have been in a situation now retired, comfortable, happy, and thankful.

God bless you from someone that is just a few years younger. Our parents were those who went through the Depression and World Wars which gave them obstacles to overcome and experience to deal with issues that no generation since has had to deal with. You can only hope that todays generation acknowledges and respects what there grandparents and great-grandparents went through to give them the world we live in today despite it's warts.

The expression 'Respect Your Elders' has taken on enhanced meaning to me over the years, especially as I've aged.

What i've learned and continue to learn is....anyone that has lived a decent amount of time on this planet...be it 50, 60, 70 years or more....DESERVES RESPECT.

We all find out that LIFE is full of hard knocks. No matter how rich, well educated, physically or mentally blessed a person is...we ALL face adversity throughout our lives. We face DISAPPOINTMENT, LOSS, sometimes a BROKEN HEART.

My point is...our elders DESERVE RESPECT ALWAYS because they kept going...despite the roller coaster ups and downs of this life that we're all blessed to get a chance at living. Many choose to give up and that is sad and unfortunate. But those that choose to PERSEVERE through life's inevitable struggles DESERVE THAT RESPECT because they NEVER QUIT.

Wiz' post got me in a philosophical mood and just wanted to share my thoughts on this my HB brothers on this...a day of thankful reflection.

Not sure what the message was, but my guess is that Pirri knows. My favorite teachers in my life (in school and out of school) were those that demanded a lot from me. For me, this is a good thing. But I understand you see it differently.

Happy Thanksgiving to you. Really enjoy the banter you create here - and often agree with it (wtf is wrong with me?).

- mohel

I agree with that. And if that is indeed what is happening then great, I just sometimes wonder if Q ever will give some of these guys true opportunities to succeed and/or fail at critical times. On the flip side, I have no problem with him going with his guns down the stretch of a game.

My comment was more about this unknown assumption and label that is thrown out on the board. Its vagueness is often undefinable and vague. Q is an artist I guess..

I too enjoy the banter and trading paint here and there with you guys.

Also concerning Pirri "benching"....He had shifts after taking a bad penalty and the miscue that led to a goal...

He hasn't been playing much in the last 1/2 of the the 3rd period anyway.

Great comment, Great observation.

Have thought the same myself. And don't blame Q for going with his horses with the standings as tight as they are.

I often take juvenile jabs at my fellow posters who often infer there is something more going on.

Very nice Phil (and Wiz), great posts you guys.
Probably in between your ages (57 now) and have heard all the stories from my grandparents (God rest their souls) who lost homes in the Great Depression and always taught me how important it was to have a good roof over your head and food on the table. It didn't matter (and doesn't) that our clothes might not be new or that we have the newest car, as long as we had each other.

I'm grateful for my family and the good lessons my Mom & Dad taught me along the way (of course along with lessons that cannot be replaced, given from Grandparents to me).

It's good to come here and enjoy the banter we have over our team -- 3 Cups in my lifetime as well, I was a wee little lad when the 1st was won in '61. Can't believe these last 2 and told my daughters how special this was.

Of course I also have my hockey buddies, guys I've skated with for more than 30 years and we are still as competitive as when we were in our teens and twenties.
As we all know, hockey is a sport like no other -- so glad my Dad was a fan when I was little and introduced me to this great game we love.

Thank you for sharing all that, Wiz. Life and our position in it are fragile things that can change drastically at any moment. It is great to hear stories about people that have overcome difficult situations. The school of hard knocks does breed strength - thanks again for sharing your wisdom.

I don't know what's really happening either; I'm just presenting possibilities. Other than Stalberg (not brought up to poke at you, btw), I don't remember too much talk about players not knowing what to expect from Q. My guess (and it is only a guess) is that he is pretty good at letting players know what he expects; otherwise maybe we'd hear more griping from former or anonymous current players. The vagueness you write about might only be present to us.

Lastly, nice play working the Nascar analogy in (trading paint). Peace to you and yours.

Thanks for sharing that Wiz.

Your accounts remind me growing up on South Side and South suburbs and the many trials and tribulations and how fortunate I am that things turned out as they did.

Perhaps in a way many more can relate to, these moments of reflection are what make the movie A Bronx Tale mean so much. Not that I was ever a tough guy, but when you grow up so close to so much craziness and you live thru close calls...well it just makes you wonder looking back at it now.

I think back to the scene in the movie where C gets in the car with his crazy friends and I remember that same feeling at times. How those small decisions can often change your life forever....and not in a positive way. Don't blow it...

Anyhow, love this time of year.

Wiz , I will be in Tampa for Pens game tomorrow. We are doing the rink of dreams at 11 AM, Will be a blast.

ah, just read the Hawks got lucky in Calgary and might be one of of the reasons for the 3rd period comeback - Wideman is out for awhile (6 to 8 weeks) with a broken hand courtesy of Pirri shot (almost positive it was Pirri) and Monahan to miss 2 games with a bad foot. Poor Calgary, they can't catch a break.
