My apologies forgot to be more specific. It's still a bad hire though my hop is that he has little to no say in who we draft
- Sabresfan-365

He was hired as a pro scout, not amateur.

I think saying we took 5 steps backward because we hired a scout is a bit of an overreaction.

I know I know its a complete over reaction I just really don't like the guy professionally speaking so i was a bit upset. If it really is just as pro scout I'm okay with it and I'm glad he won't be doing the bulk of the work on picking the players in the draft. Ask anyone from edm that guy is solely responsible for setting their rebuild back.

1 person can't possibly be solely responsible for the (frank)ing disaster in edm

Another WRONG statement!!! Assistant GMs are the sole responsible parties for killing teams draft picks!!!

found some takes on him

http://blogs.edmontonjour...ellini-fires-prendergast/

http://blogs.edmontonjour.../04/21/prendergast-fired/

From other articles and opinions heres what I get.....he wasnt horrible....he wasnt that good eaither....he was OK

I dont think itll be a big issue unless he somehow gets shot up to assistant GM...theres about a .0001% chance of that

But..but...Edmonton hockeybuzz folks say he is the sole reason that team is so bad!!!

Its strange. He got fired by Tambellini (Sp?) and got called out but Steve was just as if not worse for that team after....hard to figure where that fire started as an outsider looking in

Tambellini just got hired as a pro scout for Anaheim by the way....these things happen...these dudes get tossed around after they fall from grace. Not to big of a deal. Maybe hes more motivated now to show he is still a good evaluator

He really is though, that entire management group is at fault but he was at the forefront of some of the worst contracts and draft picks in the last decade. Again, I'll leave it alone so long as he goes nowhere near the prospects.

Meh, just having fun. Just sick of every move being blown out of proportion. He's on as a scout, not a manager in any way (not even head of scouting).

That 1st article is actually defending Prendergast in allot of areas.
" By most fan accounts, Craig Button was a great scout and Kevin Prendergast was a terrible one, but their records aren't really as far apart as they should be if that were the case. More than anything, it's that one pick of Jarome Iginla that really sets Button apart, and rightfully so. But that's how razor-thin the margins are from being a hero to a goat in the NHL draft."

found an interesting comment on the 2nd article

Prendergast should not be the guy getting fired. his job was to identify the 40 or so best players to b e invited to the World Junior Camps. I don't think we can argue that the talent wasn't there. The questin becomes who of the 40 made the final rosters and how were they coached. Further, several NHL teams didn't always make certain players available so how does he become responsible for our lack of Gold.

Sounds like team canada has a bigger issue than Kevin too

"Hockey Canada says it is also considering structural and organizational changes to some of its other youth programs."

Funny.

I was just reading the first link you gave me and clicked back over here.

Yeah, looking at his draft record, all I can say is YIKES!

Hopefully he isn't that influential here. I see it has him listed as a pro/amateur scout for us. Good thing there are a lot of opinions to consider with the Sabres. They have a ton of scouts.

for awhile he was a productive player...roster changed...he got injured...tons of coaches...new GMs and front offices can kill otherwise good players sometimes...moral cant be very high in that dressing room the last 5 years or so

When Kevin was leaving the oil it looked pretty good for Ales

In 2011 when the blog was posted ales was near a PPG too
