it's not bad, but it's clearly a money grab. This is a jersey they'll wear ONCE but with the Black Friday "push" am sure it'll be on sale tonight at the Coli. Once again, score one for the PR department ......doing more work than the front office!

I like it. Nice job. Now go fix my team Wang.

lets assume this is true...the availability isnt the issue; its the willingness to spend.

You're 100% right on that...

It's only going to get tougher for the Isles if big spenders like the Rangers have more cap room. It will be really tough if the Isles miss the playoffs.
- ses111

I don't think the Islanders will be big players in free agency again. I would think they will have a much younger team next year with the likes of Strome, Lee, Reinhart and maybe Peluch (sp?) making the team...

Yes they were but they do bring back good memories

I agree and unless they want to just blow guys out of the water it will not matter.

I think they will attempt to spend the $$$ the real issue is would the players take it to play here??

They have offered big $$$ before to players, just the players chose to go elsewhere...

I believe without any major players on team "besides JT" and no experience coaching staff, it will be hard pressed for any player to come here.

I think it would take a change in management and coaching to go along with the $$$ especially if they miss the playoffs.

I know. Wasn't expecting anything major but a jersey enveiling is hardly major

I have no idea what Staple was thinking. This is far from a major.

Based on JT's team friendly contract for a superstar, how do the Isles justify given any free agent or trade prospect more money. What i'm saying is how can you pay anyone more than arguably the 3rd best player in the league. Maybe he wouldn't care if it makes the team better and he'll make up for it on his next contract?

coaching will definitely change by next year, not so sure about Snow.....

1 thing for sure, Brett Yormark and Brooklyn will not except this mediocre team go to their building unless it adds marketing value = name players, coaches.

So with the cap possibly going up, we might actually be fortunate, but only until Brooklyn not the Coliseum....

if the cap goes up that much we're not going to have any choice but to spend, the floor will go up quite a bit. There are going to be a ton of middling players this offseason who are going to be more overpaid than clarkson.

I think you're overestimating their involvement. I'm sure they want the ticket sales that come with a successful team, but even poor teams sell tickets.

Easily. JT knows the game. You have to get to UFA status to get paid. That's how the league works. JT will get a ridiculous max deal once the Isles are allowed to extend him or he hits UFA status. He's looking at 8 years at about $9M per. He just needs to be patient. JT doesn't strike me as a guy who is obsessed with the contract and will be happy to have Vanek make more if it means Vanek is on JT's wing for the next 8 years or so. JT is a grounded kid, appears to have everything in perspective. I wouldn't worry about his response to an offer over $7M per for Vanek.
